• Experienced discrimination when he was grown up

• he was a Baptist minister and the most famous
  leader of the American civil rights movement
• Main target was segregation and discrimination in
  the 50s and 60s

• Non-violent protests
• Studied Mahatma Ghandi who used this method in
  India against British rule

• Led the Montgomery bus boycott
• The situation became so tense his house was
  bombed
• King was arrested during this campaign, which
  ended with a Supreme Court decision outlawing
  racial segregation on buses.

• King was instrumental in the founding of the
  Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957
• SCLC conducted nonviolent protests
• organized and led marches for blacks' right to
  vote, desegregation, labor rights
