Bill of Rights Decision1
  • George Washington and Congress in 1791, added the
first ten amendments to protect the rights of
citizens. This was called the Bill of Rights,
and it guarantees rights like freedom of speech,
freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.
It gives people the right to speak about their
own beliefs, worship whoever they want, and have
a trial by jury. It also gives powers not
already given to the Constitution, to the states
and other people of federal government. This was
based on a law, and not on royal power.
  • George Washington and Congress added the Bill of
Rights to the Constitution. Americans werent
getting the freedom that they deserved and they
were not getting to do things they wanted.
Without the Bill of Rights, the Constitution was
weak. The Bill of Rights was also to get people
to support the constitution. In other words it
was to protect the true rights of citizens.

9
Bill of Rights Decision1(cont)
  • 1. George Washington added the Bill of Rights to
    make the Constitution stronger.
  • 2. George Washington added the Bill of Rights to
protect the basic rights of the citizens.
  • 3.The President added the Bill of Rights to
bring a government together chosen by the people
    and not by royal power.
  • Today, if Washington hadnt added the Bill of
Rights to the Constitution, the people would have
barely any rights which should be guaranteed.
Also, the government today would not be chosen by
the people and people would be ruled based on
royal power, rather than the laws that we have to
    follow.

10
Bill of Rights Decision 1(cont)
  • 1. The President could have had an election to
see what the majority thinks about adding the
Bill of Rights, or he could gave chosen not to
have a Bill of Rights at all.
  • 11. I would have added the Bill of Rights to
the Constitution because it actually gives
citizens their true rights that they should
    always have had.
  • 111. I would do it because it actually gives
citizens what they deserve, it makes life easier
for a lot of people, and it allows elections by
the people so that the President can see what
citizens feel like about certain issues.

11
Appointing Thomas Jefferson
  • When Washington first entered office as president
he made a very important decision, to appoint
Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was the author
of the Declaration of Independence as Secretary
    of State. (Osbourne 94-96)
  • Earlier that decade Jefferson had done a lot of
work for America, he had written the Declaration
of Independence. Jefferson was also very similar
to Washington and stood up for farmers.
Washington also chose him because Jefferson had
had an important role in the revolution.

12
Appointing Thomas Jefferson (Cont)
  • C) Vice-presidents are under the president and
under them is the cabinet. The cabinet is
appointed by the president. George Washington was
the first President and he appointed a cabinet,
ever since then there has always been a cabinet.
He appointed Thomas Jefferson to fill the job.
  • D) If Washington had not made this decision
Thomas Jefferson may not have been the 3rd
president of the U.S.A. Thomas also would not
have been as popular. The economy and Culture of
the U.S.S could be completely different.

13
Appointing Thomas Jefferson (Cont)
  • E) Instead of appointing Thomas Jefferson
    Washington could have
  • 1) Appointed someone else.
  • 2) Not have appointed anyone.
  • 3) Let the people decide.
  • I would have let the people decide who should be
in cabinet. It should be their choice, and then
they couldnt critize who they elected because
they are the ones that chose them. It would also
help them get used to the idea of a democracy.

14
To Help or Not to Help?
  • The French had just had their Revolution for
freedom. The French then declared war on England,
Spain, and Holland. George Washington did not
help the French although the French had helped
    America.
  • America had just come through the Revolutionary
War and could not help the French with theirs.
The French had beheaded their leaders and had not
yet organized a government. The French then
declared war on three major countries.

15
To Help or Not to Help? (Cont)
  • George Washington decided not to help because
  • 1) We had many problems ourselves.
  • 2) It would save money.
  • 3) If we helped it might ruin our growth as a
    nation.
  • D) If George Washington had chosen to help, the
United States might not be here today at all. We
could have been weakened, taken over, or even
    disappeared.

16
To Help or Not to Help? (Cont)
  • E) Instead of not helping the French George could
    have
  • 1) Helped the French.
  • 2)Ignored the French.
  • 3) Fight against the French.
  • I would have helped the French. I would have
helped because they helped us, it would help
inspire other revolutions, and we would gain
    allies.
