Discussion Board
  • To include button on course set up, go to control
    panel and then to Course Options
  • Click on Manage Course Menu
  • Click on modify for the Discussion Board
  • Make available to student/participant users
  • To make discussion forums you once again go to
    the control panel

How to Organize
  • Many teachers organize their Discussion Board
    with several different forums for the students.
  • Examples Introduction, Homework, Textbook, Class
    Policies, Exams, Individual Chapters, and Chat.
  • Some teachers make posts part of the course grade
    or extra credit.
  • Make sure to be clear with expectations of the
    content of a good post.

Surveys/Pools/Gradebook
  • Creating Surveys, Tests, and Pool Questions have
    the same steps.
  • Main difference is Surveys are automatically
    anonymous (cannot connect responses to specific
    students).
  • You can create the assessments first and then
    deploy them or vice versa.
  • Go to the control panel.

Deployment
  • Once a survey or test is created it must be
    deployed so that the students can access it.
  • You can deploy a survey or test within any course
    button you have created.
  • Enter the course button within the control panel
    where you want the survey or test to appear for
    the students.
  • Look at top right of window for Select option.

Using the Pool of Questions
  • To create a pool, go to Pool Manager, the
    procedure is similar to creating surveys.
  • To use questions from a pool, you select From a
    Question Pool or Assessment as your question
    type, then click GO.
  • Then select the pool or assessment to copy a
    question from.
  • You can also search for all questions of any
    type.
  • Then proceed similarly in creating your
    assessment or survey.

Course Compass Gradebook
  • Click on Gradebook in the assessment part of the
    control panel (different from MyMathLab
    Gradebook).
  • Any assessment deployed will already be
    automatically added.
  • You can add a new item, manage items, change
    settings and weights, and download or upload
    grades.
  • Click on a specific item to change options, enter
    student grades, view results, view statistics,
    etc.
