  associated with Christ's birth. The New Testament
  does not give a specific date. Its now a
  tradition.

• 2. Christmas is an amalgamation of traditions
  from many different cultures and backgrounds over
  at least 1800 years, mainly from the Northern
  Hemisphere.

• 3. The earliest recorded history of the use of
  25th December to celebrate the birth of Christ is
  AD 221.

• 4. The Winter Solstice was a time when many
  festivals were traditionally held in the
  Northern Hemisphere and Christmas festivities
  often combine the commemoration of Jesus birth
  with various secular customs.

• 5. Most Northern hemisphere cultures have held a
  recognition of rebirth, involving holidays,
  festivals, gatherings, rituals or other
  celebrations around that time.
