Myths about Samhain

• Samhain is not a God, or even a person. It is a
  holiday
• It is pronounced sow-en or sov-van not
  sam-hane
• It is not a rock group
• Samhain has nothing to do with sacrifices

• Although it has to do with death, and
  remembering the dead, it is also the new year for
  most witches and pagans.

Myth 1

• Witches worship the devil or Satan.
• Pagans have no evil figure fighting against the
  good guys. Satan and the devil are Christian
  concepts. Pagans arent Christian.

• Witches are evil enchantresses.
• Pagans and witches are pretty much like everyone
  else. Most try to do good things with magic. Not
  all are female.

• Witches are evil old hags, stirring their
  cauldrons and hanging out with black cats and
  bats.
• Silly. Were not all old and some of us like dogs.

• Witches fly through the air on broomsticks.
• Pagans use brooms for sweeping. The broom is a
  symbol for good housekeeping.

• Witches can do magic with a simple gesture or
  spell and get whatever they want.
• TV shows and movies like Bewitched are fun,
  but real magic doesnt work that way

• You dont have to be born into a witch family or
  find your spells in an old book to be a pagan,
  like the charmed ones. On Charmed, you find
  out that there are rules and consequences to
  magic.

• Jack OLanterns represent evil pagan spirits.
• Actually, they are meant to frighten spirits
  that might do harm as they walk the earth on
  Halloween night. They are to protect your home.

• Thats the same reason folks wear costumes on
  Halloween, so that the spirits wont recognize
  you and do you mischief.
• Some Pagans and Witches think that what you dress
  as for Halloween will be what you are all year.

• Halloween is a conspiracy by the candy companies
  to rot kids teeth and make money.
• Actually, more candy is sold for Christmas and
  Easter.

• What most people believe about magic, witches and
  pagans is made up or just plain wrong
• Its not like TV or the movies.
• Pagans and Witches say Merry Meet and Merry Part
  and Merry Meet Again or Blessed Be when they
  are saying good bye to each other.
