Names of prospective students are collected by
College Recruiters who visit high schools
through out NM and the bordering
states. Admissions sends names of students who
have applied to NMSU and have an interest in
Physics EP. They also provide names of
Students with high ACT/SAT scores in science
and math. Students may contact us from our
website and can mail in their information from
the pre-paid Business reply cards supplied with
the fliers and Undergraduate poster that was
mailed out to over 200 NM and bordering states,

Recruitment events provide us an opportunity to
interact face to face with the students
and parents. We collect names of interested
students at our recruitment tables. These tables
include table-top demonstrations of
experiments and program information. We typically
get about 8-14 names per event. Our student
ambassadors enjoy helping at these tables.
Involvement in recruitment helps in retention of
current students as they feel more connected to
the program and piques the interest of incoming
students.

The recruitment committee will go through the
compiled data and based on interactions with the
student (i.e. level of enthusiasm interest) at
an event and information provided by College
Recruiters and Admissions, the students are
categorized as good prospects, immediate
prospects and future prospects. Good prospects
have exceptional ACT/SAT scores and/or indicate
great interest in the program. Some student
prospects given to us by the College of
Engineering may not be a good prospect as the
student may indicated another type of engineering
as an interest instead of Chemical, Mechanical or
EP. Immediate prospects are seniors while future
prospects Freshmen through Juniors, we keep tabs
on these Students and the lines of communication
open.

Today, websites and networking sites such as
MySpaceare generally a students
first introduction to a degree program. Keeping
those sites full of information and as current as
possible, registers with the student that our
program is savvy to student culture, involved,
vital and thriving. As our program grows, our
materials must reflect those changes. Current
students, projects and activities featured in our
materials help to keep our information fresh and
interesting. There are budget constraints at
this time.
Maintain websites and keep materials updated.

A call list of prospective students in generated
and then distributed to the faculty. The faculty
typically receives the names and numbers of
about 12-14 students per call wave and then must
contact the students. The calls are made
between January April, as this is the time
after all major recruitment events for the year
have been completed and New Student Orientation
Registration begins. Faculty are supplied with
information to relate to the student via a
standard call sheet and supplemental information
on our programs. The faculty then return the
call sheets to the Recruitment Committee for one
more round of processing and filtering.

Call sheet information is then processed and
Filtered for definite interests. They are
once again categorized into Good, Immediate
and Future. The purpose of the re-filtering is
to weed- out those names of students who will
not be attending NMSU or have changed their minds
about their choice of major.
