• Fidel Castro took power in 1959
• The Bay of Pigs invasion failed miserably and

• The Cuban Missile Crisis nearly caused nuclear war

Kennedy Killed

• November 22, 1963- Kennedy is shot in the head in
  Dallas.
• Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the shooting.
• Oswald was then killed on National TV by Jack
  Ruby
• Lyndon Johnson was the new President

• LBJ enacted a series of reforms called the Great
  Society.
• Economic Opportunity Act- 1 Billion to youth
  programs
• Medicare/Medicaid
• Immigration Act of 1965 opened non-European
  immigration

  sought to end police brutality and military
  service
