• Founded in 1864, the building is from 1880
• Training school for teachers till 1974
• A boy-school till 1974
• A classical form (with Greek and Latin) and a
  humanistic branch

The Finnish school system

• You normally start the school at the age of
  seven, even though someones already start in the
  age of six
• Nine school years are compulsory
• Its still very common that pupils go to upper
  secondary after the compulsory school, but its
  optional
• No school fee, also the lunch in the schools are
  paid by the state
• You have to buy your books yourself after the
  comprehensive school
• Upper secondary school takes from 2 to 4 years,
  even though most pupils get ready after three
  years
• School year is divided into 5 to 6 periods, every
  student has his/her own schedule and it changes
  after every period
• After their studies in upper secondary school,
  the students have to attend a nationwide final
  examination, which is organized twice every year.

Happenings in Norsen

• The 140 year Anniversary This year our school
  turned 140 years. Some of the students are
  arranging a big party at a well-known park
  restaurant. With program that includes fashion
  shows, fireworks, live band performance and some
  of Finlands finest celebrities (former
  students).
• The Norsen ballEvery third year our school has a
  ball. Its similar to the American prom. Girls
  dress up in long dresses and boys wear suits.
• The ugly clothes dayOnce a year we have a
  competition where the person with the ugliest
  clothes win. The outfit must be worn tall day
  until the price is given in the end of the day.

Happenings in Norsen Part 2

• Valentines DayEvery Valentines Day pupilscorps
  arrange a rose-sending program. A couple of days
  before Valentines day you can buy a rose and a
  card and on the 14.2 all the roses will be given
  to their recivers personally. So if you have a
  crush on someone this is the way to show it. ?
• Sport happeningsOur school has a lot of sport
  events to choose from. These are e.g. golf-,
  basketball- and footballcompetitions.
• Music eventsEvery season we have a consert for
  pupils, teachers, parents, friends and others.
  The schools choir usually perform among other
  singers and artists.
