Title: JOSEPHS JOURNEY:
1JOSEPHS JOURNEY COLLISION WITH
PROVIDENCE Genesis 451 - 15
2Nothing happens purely by accident. God is at
work, both in the minute details of life, as well
as the major milestones of our existence, to
accomplish His plans and purposes.
3For those who love God all things work together
for good, for those who are called according to
his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also
predestined to be conformed to the image of his
Son.
- Romans 828-29
4 When applied to God the idea takes on a vastly
larger dimension because God not only looks ahead
and attempts to make provision for his goals, but
infallibly accomplishes all he sets out to do.
And because it is Gods governance that is in
view,
5 it encompasses everything in the universe, from
the creation of the world to its consummation,
inclusive of every aspect of human existence and
destiny. Providence, then, is the sovereign,
divine superintendence of all things, guiding
6them toward their divinely predetermined end in
a way that is consistent with their created
nature, all to the glory and praise of God. This
divine, sovereign, and benevolent control of all
things by God is the underlying premise of
everything that is taught in the Scriptures.
- Walter Elwell, Evangelical Dictionary of
Biblical Theology, page 650
7Providence means that God has not abandoned the
world that he created, but rather works within
that creation to manage all things according to
the immutable counsel of His own will.
- James Montgomery Boice, Gods Proividence
8Now Joseph was governor over the land. He was
the one who sold to all the people of the land.
And Joseph's brothers came and bowed themselves
before him with their faces to the ground.
Joseph saw his brothers and recognized them,
9 but he treated them like strangers and spoke
roughly to them. Where do you come from? he
said. They said, From the land of Canaan, to buy
food. And Joseph recognized his brothers, but
they did not recognize him. And Joseph
10 remembered the dreams that he had dreamed of
them. And he said to them, You are spies you
have come to see the nakedness of the land.
They said to him, No, my lord, your servants
have come to buy food. We are all sons of one
man. We are honest men. Your servants have never
been spies.
- Genesis 426 11
11I am surprised at the way they could stand there
and gape without their soul parting company with
their body, without their going out of their mind
or hiding themselves in the ground.
- Kent Hughes, Genesis Beginning and Blessing,
page 518
12PROVIDENCE RECOGNIZED
And now do not be distressed or angry with
yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent
me before you to preserve life.
- Genesis 455
13A REMANANT ON EARTH
God sent me before you to preserve for you a
remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many
survivors.
- Genesis 457
