Title: Dress Code Violations
1Dress Code Violations
2What is the function of dress code violations?
3Students have been receiving from adults
- In school suspension
- Out of school suspension
- Lectures
- Ridicule
Its not working.
4So, how do we stop flushing away our time and
energy and switch to something that works?
5Question for you?????
Do you drive?
6Question for you?????
Do you think you ever go over the speed Limit?
7Didnt you see the sign ???
8Please turn and tell a neighbor
- Why you would choose to go over the speed limit
from time to time.
9Those nice little police officers are hiding
behind the trees and bushes, waiting for you to
zip by at the incorrect speed limit so they can
pull you over with the lights and sirens, walk up
to the car, and hand you a ticket for 75 or
more. But what if they did it different? What
if they waited behind the trees and bushes for
you to go by the correct speed limit, whipped out
behind you, turned on the lights and sirens and
then walked up and handed you a check for 75?
How many of us would try very hard to never, ever
speed again? As a matter of fact, if Dillards
was having a shoe sale, Id keep going by until
they caught me.
10Im not saying we should pay children money to be
good.
- But we can pay them with compliments.
- So what does that have to do with dress code
violations?
11Weve been kicking kids out and that hasnt
worked so heres what has
- We now have this working in 3 different states in
12 different schools
12Wait till something big is coming up like a
school dance.
- On the Monday before the dance, print up special
gotchas that say Thanks for dressing for
success. - Have all adults in the building pass them out
only to people who are dressed appropriately. - Make it a big secret- but tell the kids to hang
on to the tickets.
13If all adults are busy passing them out
- The potential for any given student who is
dressed appropriately is to earn about 30 of
these in one week. This means adults are busy
saying the words, Thanks for dressing for
success.
- Print them on red paper with a special symbol on
them that is hard to duplicate. - All week have the kids sign their name on the
back of them as they receive them. - Do not tell them what they are forbut make it
known that they will want to have them.
14On Friday make this announcement
- Boys and Girls, everyone who has 30 Dressed for
Success tickets gets into the dance for free
tonight and the band will be playing 30 minutes
early just for you and your date.
- or, whatever would float the boat of the
students in your school. - Free pictures of the event
- Free karaoke time
- Free CD of the band playing
- Pictures on the school CCTV on Monday for all
their friends to see.
15Add this to the announcement
- The principal says
- Dont worry, if you didnt get 30 tickets this
time. We will be doing something different each
time. - You will never know when well call them in, or
how many you will need. - It might be a free homework pass, a free entrance
to a game, an assembly with a famous sport
figure. Wait and see.
16Heres whats been happening
- If the payoff is good enough, the kids will want
to get noticed so they over dress. - The girls compliment the boys because they look
nice- so it becomes a self-motivating game.
17One principal said the boys are wearing ties and
he never asked them tobut a girl told a boy he
looked nice and it grew from there.
18Its worth a trybecause how well is what youre
currently doing working for you?
