  • Dear Students
  • I am pleased to have you in my class this year.
    We will be working on improving ourselves, our
    communication skills, writing skills, listening
    skills, teamwork skills, and note-taking skills
    every day. Please note that you may reach me at
    dgarrett_at_ems-isd.net. It will be beneficial to
    you to email me in order to receive a more prompt
    response from me. I have very high expectations
    for all of my classes. Please read the following

  • Late Work
  • Every student is responsible for turning in work
    on time. Situations arise therefore, my late
    work policy is for one day late - 25 points
    deducted and two days late - 50 points deducted.
  • Attendance/Make-up Work
  • You WILL miss work when you are absent. For
    every day that is missed, you have that many days
    to make up the missing work. For example, if you
    are out on Tuesday, you return on Wednesday, you
    have until Thursday to complete the missing work.
    If you miss a test, you are responsible for
    setting an appointment with me to make up the
    test within a weeks time or receive a zero. You
    have the burden of the responsibility to get your
    make up work from me and to turn in the
    assignment within the allotted time frame.

  • Behavior
  • I expect every student to be on his/her best
    behavior in class. We do not have the time to
    spend on immaturity and discipline issues. I
    will give one warning then write a referral. We
    have too much to cover in class to be sidetracked
    by inappropriate behavior. I have zero tolerance
    in my classroom. This is your job Attend class
    on time every day, pay attention, complete the
    assignments on time, and participate every day.

  • Parental Communication
  • I will need to be able to communicate with your
    parents - sometimes once a trimester, sometimes
    once a six weeks, and sometimes once a week.
    Please give me both a phone number and an email
    address in which I can contact your parents.
    Contact me any time you have any questions or
    concerns.

  • Assignments
  • We will be working on various topics that make up
    the second part of World History. You will be
    doing most of the work while I will be lecturing
    some of the time. You will be keeping a daily
    journal which will be a Major Grade at the end
    of the six weeks. There will be smaller
    assignments that will add up to Daily
    Participation also at the end of the six weeks.
    There will be some group work and some individual
    work. If you have any questions about any
    assignment, please email me and I will respond as
    quickly as possible.
