Title: Foundations of Faith

1
Foundations of Faith
  • Ephesians 220-22
  • (20) And are built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being
    the chief corner stone
  • (21) In whom all the building fitly framed
together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord
  • (22) In whom ye also are builded together for an
habitation of God through the Spirit.

2
Foundations of Faith
  • Hebrews 61-2 KJV
  • (1) Therefore leaving the principles of the
doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection
not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works, and of faith toward God,
  • (2) Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying
on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and
    of eternal judgment.

3
Foundations of Faith
  • The Basis of Truth
  • The Basis of Tradition

4
Elevators and Escalators in Empty Buildings?
  • Many times people talk about Elevators into
greater dimensions, when they do not have the
    foundation right.

5
You have got to get the Foundation right.
  • Hebrews 61-2 (1) Therefore leaving the
principles of the doctrine of Christ,
  • let us go on unto perfection
  • (3) And this will we do, if God permit.

6
Laying the Foundation
  • The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ
  • This is the foundation
  • of repentance from dead works,
  • and of faith toward God,
  • Of the doctrine of baptisms,
  • and of laying on of hands,
  • and of resurrection of the dead,
  • and of eternal judgment.

7
These are the Foundation Stones upon which the
Church is Built.
  • Repentance,
  • Faith,
  • Baptism,
  • Laying on of Hands
  • The Resurrection
  • Eternal Judgment

8
The Foundation of Faith
  • One Scripture that deals with faith does not
nullify the scripture that deals with Repentance.
  • The Scripture on Repentance does not nullify the
    scripture on Baptisms.
  • The Scripture of Baptism in Water does not
nullify the Scripture of Spirit Baptism.
  • They are all instruments in the Symphony of
    Salvation.

9
  • If you have faith,
  • You will Repent,
  • If you have Faith and you Repent, you will be
    Baptized.
  • Repentance, Faith and Baptisms
  • These are Foundational Principles of the Doctrine
    of Christ

10
Where does it say, Baptism is not important?
  • Mark 1616 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved but he that believeth not shall
    be damned.
  • 1 Peter 321 The like figure whereunto even
baptism doth also now save us (not the putting
away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of
a good conscience toward God,) by the
    resurrection of Jesus Christ
  • Romans 63-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as
were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
    into his death?
  • Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into
death that like as Christ was raised up from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life.

11
Where does it say Baptism is not Important?
  • Ephesians 45 KJV) One Lord, one faith, one
    baptism,
  • Colossians 212 KJV
  • (12) Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye
are risen with him through the faith of the
operation of God, who hath raised him from the
    dead.

12
Baptism is Important
  • Act 238 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and
be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • Act 239 For the promise is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even
as many as the Lord our God shall call.

13
Baptism is Important
  • Acts 812 KJV
  • (12) But when they believed Philip preaching the
things concerning the kingdom of God, and the
name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both
    men and women.

14
  • Acts 816 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of
them only they were baptized in the name of the
    Lord Jesus.)
  • Acts 836 And as they went on their way, they
came unto a certain water and the eunuch said,
See, here is water what doth hinder me to be
    baptized?

15
Baptism was not, is not an option, but a Command
  • Acts 1048 And he commanded them to be baptized
in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to
    tarry certain days.

16
  • Acts 192-6 He said unto them, Have ye received
the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said
unto him, We have not so much as heard whether
    there be any Holy Ghost.
    (3) And he said unto them, Unto what
then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's
    baptism.
  • (4) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with
the baptism of repentance, saying unto the
people, that they should believe on him which
should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
  • (5) When they heard this, they were baptized in
the name of the Lord Jesus.
  • (6) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them,
the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with
    tongues, and prophesied.

17
No matter previous Baptism, Water Baptism in
Jesus Name is important enough to get it right
the second time.
18
Foundations
  • Truth overcomes and supersedes Tradition
  • Mark 713 Making the word of God of none effect
through your tradition, which ye have delivered
and many such like things do ye.
  • 1 Peter 118 KJV
  • (18) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not
redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and
    gold,
  • SAVED FROM WHAT?
  • from your vain conversation received by tradition
    from your fathers

19
Water and Spirit Baptism
  • John 35 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say
unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of
the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
    God.

20
Foundations of Faith
  • Acts 815-17 KJV
  • (15) Who, when they were come down, prayed for
them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost
  • (16) (For as yet he was fallen upon none of
them only they were baptized in the name of the
    Lord Jesus.)
  • (17) Then laid they their hands on them, and
    they received the Holy Ghost.

21
Spirit Baptism
  • Acts 192-6 He said unto them, Have ye received
the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said
unto him, We have not so much as heard whether
    there be any Holy Ghost.
  • (3) And he said unto them, Unto what then were
ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

22
Laying on of Hands
  • Acts 1045-47 KJV
  • (45) And they of the circumcision which believed
were astonished, as many as came with Peter,
because that on the Gentiles also was poured out
the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • (46) For they heard them speak with tongues, and
    magnify God. Then answered Peter,
  • (47) Can any man forbid water, that these should
not be baptized, which have received the Holy
    Ghost as well as we?

23
Laying on of Hands
  • Transmits Spiritual Gifts
  • Healing
  • Mar 1617 And these signs shall follow them that
believe In my name shall they cast out devils
they shall speak with new tongues
  • 1618 KJV . they shall lay hands on the sick,
    and they shall recover.

24
Resurrection of the Dead
  • Romans 811 KJV
  • (11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised
up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

25
Resurrection of the Dead
  • Romans 64-6 KJV
  • (4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism
into death that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life.
  • (5) For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the
    likeness of his resurrection
  • (6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
    sin.

26
  • 1 Corinthians 1552-55 KJV
  • (52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trump for the trumpet shall sound, and
the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we
    shall be changed.
  • (53) For this corruptible must put on
incorruption, and this mortal must put on
    immortality.
  • (54) So when this corruptible shall have put on
incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on
immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in
    victory.
  • (55) O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where
    is thy victory?

27
Eternal Judgment
  • Revelation 2014-15 KJV
  • (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake
of fire. This is the second death.
  • (15) And whosoever was not found written in the
book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
