2Historical Overview
- In 1895, a railroad bridge was 500 feet south of
the existing Flagler Memorial Bridge Mrs.
Flagler was tired of hearing the train. - In 1902, a new railroad bridge was built just
south of the current location. - The existing bridge was open to vehicular only
traffic in 1938.

4Rehabilitation
- Rehabilitation of the existing bridge was an
important consideration. Many people in the
community were hopeful that the existing bridge
could be rehabilitated and a new bridge avoided.
