Historical Overview
  • In 1895, a railroad bridge was 500 feet south of
    the existing Flagler Memorial Bridge Mrs.
    Flagler was tired of hearing the train.
  • In 1902, a new railroad bridge was built just
    south of the current location.
  • The existing bridge was open to vehicular only
    traffic in 1938.

Rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation of the existing bridge was an
    important consideration. Many people in the
    community were hopeful that the existing bridge
    could be rehabilitated and a new bridge avoided.
