Title: Aim
1The New Training Programme
Aim The aim of these Adult Training Courses is
to ensure that all adult members of The Scout
Association are in line with the Associations
Policy towards the 21st Century.
2Objectives
- All adult members will be able to follow the
Scout Associations policy. - All adults members will have a personal training
plan according to their individual scouting and
personal experiences in a modular format and with
a self-learning approach. - Adult Leaders will have a good knowledge of
National and International Scouting History and
Scouting Skills. - Adult Leaders will be trained on scouting skills
and leadership skills according to their chosen
section and responsibilities. - That all adult members (including group council
members) will know their roles and
responsibilities within the Scout Association.
3Method
- Pre-training starts at Sectional and Group level
after a welcoming interview by the GSL and
Section Leader. A probation period of at least
three (3) months is given to the adult individual
before any direct role is given in contact
with young members. - An interview with the DC, GSL and Section Leader
is done and a job description and a personal
training plan are agreed by all (standard forms
by the Training and Programme Dept). Personal
Training Plan is forwarded to the Training Dept. - An initial training package is purchased from the
Training Dept. and each individual will be able
to attend the necessary level of Adult Training
according to the Training Course Schedule.
Partial Funding and Monitoring through the
European Scout Office

5Why was there a need for change?
Comments and feedback from leaders and current
trainees
- Course duration is too long
- Optional evening sessions needed instead of
weekends - Family needs, too many evenings or consecutive
weekends create problems - More practical sessions
- A better understanding of where each course leads
- We do training but then face an old mentality
within the group - The need of training for group supporters
