TURKISH SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY
2
In Turkey all the shipyards are owned by private
companies. There are only 4 state owned shipyards
for navy. Private shipyards try to increase the
capacity by modernization and by new investments.
All of these activities are coordinated by
Undersecretariat for Maritime Affairs. While
the number of shipyards in Turkey was 45 in 2002,
it reached to 107 in 2009. The new shipyard
projects has increased after 2003 with 132 new
projects, 70 of them are in currently progress.

SHIPBUILDING SUB-INDUSTRY
Turkish shipbuilding sub-industries have a
parallel development with the shipbuilding
industry. Shipyards import around 50 of its need
of supply products (main engine, boiler, oil-fuel
separators, navigation equipments, sensors
etc.). Turkish shipbuilding sub-industry proved
itself with the production of some equipment
such as medium power generator, hatch cover,
cabin skylight, certificated steel plate and
profile, deck equipment, windlass, rudder
machinery, propeller, electrical equipment,
synthetic and steel rope, ship chains, anchors,
accommodation modules, fireproof panels,
