A New City Takes Shape

• Because of the Great Chicago Fire, rebuilding of
  the entire city was made possible with the newest
  technology.
• Before the fire, the tallest buildings in Chicago
  were 10 stories high. After the fire, the Sears
  Tower was built and it was 110 stories high!
• Elevators were a necessary invention for
  skyscrapers. Why?

Making the First Skyscraper

  steel. It made steel cheap to make. Cheap steel
  was needed for skyscrapers.
