Introduction
  • There are three types of social maps in which we
    generally see ourselves.
  • Genetic Determinism-you are what you are because
    it is hereditary.
  • Psychic determinism-you are what you are because
    of your upbringing.
  • Environmental determinism- you are what you are
    because of the environment you live in.

Stimulus-Response Theory
  • We respond to particular stimuli
  • Victor Frankl
  • Jewish prisoner in Nazi death camps
  • His dignity was repressed.
  • His family was murdered and he was forced to
    dispose of the bodies.
  • He realized that they can take away his liberty,
    but not his freedom.
  • He had the power to decide how all of this was
    going to affect him.
  • He was an inspiration to those around him
  • He used his experiences to discover that in
    between stimulus and response, man has the
    freedom to choose.

Definition of Proactivity
  • More than merely taking initiative
  • It means that we are responsible for our own
    lives.
  • We have the initiative and the responsibility to
    make things happen.
  • Responsibility Response Ability the
    ability to choose your own response.
  • How we respond to the stimuli in our lives will
    ultimately make or break us.

  • Things within our circle of concern over which we
    have influence.

  • Proactive people focus their efforts on Circle of
    Influence
  • Reactive people focus their efforts in Circle of
    Concern
  • Proactive people have a Circle of Concern that
    is as big as their Circle of Influence

Conclusion
  • If you make a mistake, admit it, correct it,
    learn from it immediately

  • Look at weakness of others with compassion, not
    accusation
  • The problem is not the problem, but the problem
    is how we choose to react to the problem
  • We are responsible for our own happiness and
    ultimately our circumstances
