Title: WP5: Communication design and management

1
WP5 Communication design and management
2
Main objectives
  • Two goals will be retained
  • the design of communications architecture as
robust as possible which provides a high quality
of service in terms of temporal performances,
availability, regarding the needs of the
    distributed application,
  • focus on the network instrumentation in order to
deal with its remaining malfunctions. The
objective here is to define procedures and
algorithms witch correlate several levels of
degraded (but functioning) modes with the
measured or estimated quality of service.

3
Description of work
  • WP 5.1. Robust Network Architecture Design
    (Leader UHP)
  • WP 5.2 Network instrumentation (Leader UHP)
  • WP 5.3 Simulation and prototype development
    (Leader HUT)
  • WP 5.4 Application on a multilevel prototype
    architecture (Leader SAE)
  • WP 5.5 Study of Embedded components (Leader UHP)

4
WP 5.1. Robust Network Architecture Design
(Leader UHP)
  • Objectives Network Robust to
  • Wire and wireless faults
  • Network device failure (switch, router)
  • Traffic fault (congestion, delay, burst)
  • Solution optimal multi-network architecture
related to application constraints (delay, space,
    cost)
  • Link redundancies
  • Network redundancies (wireless, power lines,
    ethernet)
  • Network performances (bandwidth, class of service)

5
WP 5.1. Robust Network Architecture Design
(Leader UHP)
  • Mathematical steps
  • Modeling
  • Graph theory
  • Queuing theory
  • Optimization
  • Graph partitioning (genetic algorithm, spectral
    algorithm)
  • Objective functions (delay, space, cost)

6
WP 5.2 Network instrumentation (Leader UHP)
  • Objectives
  • Specification of network metrology
  • Measure of network performances in real time
  • Constraints measure without network degradation
    (embedding concepts)
  • Identify adequate network indicators for
    diagnosis
  • Network diagnosis for fault tolerance
  • Residual generation for fault detection and
    isolation
  • Decision procedure to choose the appropriate
    fault treatment (using physical redundancies
    links, queuing management, priority)

7
WP 5.3 Simulation and prototype development
(Leader HUT)
  • From the expression of the end-users
requirements in WP2 (specification of the
    application parameters related to the
communication needs), some architectures will be
simulated and/or prototyped in order to be
    validated.

8
WP 5.4 Application on a multilevel prototype
architecture (Leader SAE)
  • Experimental platform
  • Implementation of network sensors
  • Implementation of fault tolerance procedures
    (accommodation, reconfiguration, degradation)
  • Tests of SAE software

9
WP 5.5 Study of Embedded components (Leader UHP)
  • Objectives
  • maintain a good QoS of Embedded applications
    for all network performances.
  • Solutions
  • Application is divided in several adaptative
blocks dedicated to one particular task. Thus
each functioning (good or bad) is predefined.
