Title: Learning the GAIT Cycle

1
Learning the GAIT Cycle
  • The Biomechanics of Your Feet

2
Your GAIT Cycle isWho You Are!
3
Your GAIT Cycle is how you strike and roll.
  • Everyone starts out on the outer right heel
  • Rolls forward through the step
  • And ends up on the big toe

Strike and Roll
4
The movement betweenthe Heel Strike and the Big
Toeis where your GAIT Cycle becomes apparent.
  • 2 of the world is efficiently neutral
  • 3 of the world under-pronates
  • 95 of the world over-pronates

5
The Neutral GAIT Cycle
  • Starts out striking the outer right heel and
rolls neutrally down the center of the foot to
the big toe. There the foot pushes off for the
    next step.
  • Pure kinetic motion.

The Neutral Gait Cycle
6
The Under-Pronator
  • Also starts out striking
  • the outer right heel, but
  • then because of rigid,
  • high arches continues
  • to stay on the outside
  • of the foot as he/she
  • rolls forward towards
  • the big toe.

Good, but not as efficient.
The Under-Pronating Gait Cycle
7
The Over-Pronator!
  • Like the rest, starts out striking the outer
right heel, but then the arches collapse and as
the feet roll forward the ankles turn inward
    creating lateral movement (rocking).

The Over-Pronating Gait Cycle
8
What Does Under-Pronation Mean?
Under-Pronation
  • Sends shock to the knees
  • Sends shock to the hips
  • Sends shock to the lower back
  • Causes stress on your arches
  • Can lead to planter-facitis

It Means You Need Stability Shoes!
