Paper Recycling Program

• Objective
• Reduce the amount of landfill trash generated at
  our station.
• Develop efficient paper recycling program without
  incurring monthly tipping or dumpster rental
  fees.
• Meet commitments to KYEXCEL.
• Develop sustainable recycling program for 2008.

• Targets
• 50 of the stations departments participate in
  office paper recycling program.
• Recycle a minimum of 2,000 lbs of recyclable
  paper products per month.
• Submit / communicate program specifics to
  KYEXCEL.

Actions to Achieve Objective and Target

• Utilize KY-DWM Office Paper Recycling Guide.
• Contact and meet with local recycling vendors in
  order to determine who best meets our operational
  needs.
• Solicit all station departments to identify who
  can participate. Complete Office Paper Recycling
  Program Area Checklist.
• Determine what resources / tools station will
  need to facilitate paper recycling (coordinators,
  monitors desk, central, and main storage bins)
• Select recycling vendor and place main recycling
  bins based on data collected from area checklist.

• Communicate program details to all participating
  department leaders.
• Begin recycling!
• Communicate monthly recycling totals to
  department leaders (even those who may not be
  participating, ignite involvement by keeping
  those not participating aware of the programs
  success and benefits.
• Monitor recycling program, solicit feed back, and
  continually fine tune program to fit departmental
  needs.

Paper Recycling Program DataMetrics

• YTD Paper Recycling Data
• Since Feb 08 Sept 08 recycled 69,532 lbs of
  paper products.
• Generated a cash Buy Back 471, net benefit
  since FEB 6,696.
• Saved an estimated 70 cubic yards of landfill
  space.
• Exceeding monthly generation target of 2,000 lbs
  per month.
• Better than goal of 50 department participation,
  currently at 76 participation rate.
• Stations Paper Recycling program is one of three
  2008 KYEXCEL projects.
