The Aaronic Priesthood

• Exo 281-4
• Now take Aaron your brother, and his sons with
  him, from among the children of Israel, that he
  may minister to Me as priest

(1) Aaron is a high priest

• Christ The High Priest (Heb 4-10)
• Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who
  has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of
  God, let us hold fast our confession. (Heb 414)

(2) Aaron was called

• Aaron was called and did not covet the position,
  but was appointed by God
• Now take Aaron your brother, and his sons with
  him, from among the children of Israel, that he
  may minister to Me as priest (Exo 281)
• And no man takes this honor to himself, but he
  who is called by God, just as Aaron was. (Heb
  54)
• So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become
  High Priest, but it was He who said to Him  You
  are My Son, Today I have begotten You.As He also
  says in another placeYou are a priest
  forever According to the order of Melchizedek
  (Heb 55-6)

(3) Aaron was from among his people

• Aaron represented and related to his people
• He was one of them of the tribe of Levi
• Related to their history, feelings, hopes
• He is able to understand and relate to their
  issues and better serve them
• For every high priest taken from among men is
  appointed for men in things pertaining to God,
  that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for
  sins. He can have compassion on those who are
  ignorant and going astray, since he himself is
  also subject to weakness. (Heb 51-2)

(3) Aaron related to his people

• Christ represented and related to his people
• He was incarnate and became man
• For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be
  conformed to the image of His Son, that He might
  be the firstborn among many brethren. (Rom 829)
• For both He who sanctifies and those who are
  being sanctified are all of one, for which reason
  He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying
  I will declare Your name to My brethren(Heb
  211-13)

(3) Aaron related to his people

• Through incarnation, He became one with us in
  flesh and blood, to destroy our enemy
• Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of
  flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in
  the same, that through death He might destroy him
  who had the power of death, that is, the devil
  (Heb 214)
• Therefore, in all things He had to be made like
  His brethren, that He might be a merciful and
  faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God,
  to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
  For in that He Himself has suffered, being
  tempted, He is able to aid those who are
  tempted. (Heb 217-18)
• For we do not have a High Priest who cannot
  sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all
  points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Heb
  415)

• The Breastplate of Judgment
• He revealed Gods judgment to people through
  Urim and Thummim (lights and perfections) (Num
  2721, 1Sam 286)
• The high priest has the authority to judge his
  people through Gods enlightenment and guidance
• Christ revealed the Father to us, and His plans
• No one has seen God at any time. The only
  begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,
  He has declared Him. (Jn 118)
• For the Father judges no one, but has committed
  all judgment to the Son (Jn 522)

• The Breastplate of Judgment Aaron carried the
  names of the tribes on his shoulders and his
  chest (heart)
• Shoulders strength
• Chest love, kindness
• He carries his people (and all their problems and
  sins) with his strength, while his heart is full
  of love towards them
• But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
  that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
  us. (Rom 58)

• Christ is Life
• He proclaimed the Word of Life
• The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,      
  Because He has anointed Me      To preach the
  gospel to the poor      He has sent Me to heal
  the brokenhearted,      To proclaim liberty to
  the captives      And recovery of sight to the
  blind,      To set at liberty those who are
  oppressed      To proclaim the acceptable year
  of the LORD.

  service, his people are all sanctified to the
  Lord

  people

  the appearance of His waist and downward I saw,
  as it were, the appearance of fire with
  brightness all around. Like the appearance of a
  rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the
  appearance of the brightness all around it. This
  was the appearance of the likeness of the glory
  of the LORD.(Ezk 127-28)

  usbaptism (not the removal of the filth of the

• Only the high priest was allowed to atone for the
  people inside the Holy of Holies
• Nor is there salvation in any other, for there
  is no other name under heaven given among men by
  which we must be saved. (Act 412)
• But Christ came as High Priest of the good
  things to come, with the greater and more perfect
  tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of
  this creation. Not with the blood of goats and
  calves, but with His own blood He entered the
  Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained
  eternal redemption. (Heb 96-12)
• Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter
  the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and
  living way which He consecrated for us, through
  the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High
  Priest over the house of God (Heb 10 19-21)

• Intercessor for his people
• But He, because He continues forever, has an
  unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also
  able to save to the uttermost those who come to
  God through Him, since He always lives to make
  intercession for them. (Heb 724)

  Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1Jn 21)
