Superior in His priestly order 71-28
Before going into that, lets take a good look
at the spiritual condition of the Hebrews
reading this letter.
43rd warning--danger of not maturing 511-620
61-8 - Therefore leaving the elementary
teaching about the Christ, let us press on to
maturity, not laying again a foundation of
repentance from dead works and of faith toward
God, of instruction about washings and laying on
of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and
eternal judgment. And this we will do, if God
permits.
Foundation principles on which mature Christians
should need no further instruction
By going back to Judaism they would lay the
foundation all over againthats been donelets
go on to maturityto what is built on top of that
foundation
Repentance from dead works Faith toward
God Washings Laying on of hands Resurrection
of the dead Eternal judgment
53rd warning--danger of not maturing 511-620
64-8 - For in the case of those who have once
been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly
gift and have been made partakers of the Holy
Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and
the powers of the age to come, and then have
fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again
to repentance, since they again crucify to
themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open
shame. For ground that drinks the rain which
often falls upon it and brings forth vegetation
useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled,
receives a blessing from God but if it yields
thorns and this-tles, it is worthless and close
to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.

If you experience the nature of the New Covenant
and its blessings, and then set it aside as
worthless to youthere is no Plan Bno other
sacrifice, no other appeal to make to you to
repent. It is equal to openly crucifying Jesus
again, since you declare publicly that He isnt
worthy of your dedication.
This is where you are headed!
63rd warning--danger of not maturing 511-620
69-12 - But, beloved, we are con-vinced of
better things concerning you, and things that
accompany salvation, though we are speaking in
this way. For God is not unjust so as to forget
your work and the love which you have shown
toward His name, in having ministered and in
still ministering to the saints. And we desire
that each one of you show the same diligence so
as to realize the full assurance of hope until
the end, so that you will not be sluggish, but
imitators of those who through faith and patience
inherit the promises.

You are better than what you have become
Youre not too far goneIts not too late
Bring back that dedication youve shown and stick
with Christ all the way through to the end.
73rd warning--danger of not maturing 511-620
613-15 - When God made his promise to Abraham,
since there was no one greater for him to swear
by, he swore by himself, saying, "I will surely
bless you and give you many descendants." And so
after waiting patiently, Abraham received what
was promised.
Gen. 2215-18
Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a
second time from heaven, and said, "By Myself I
have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have
done this thing and have not withheld your son,
your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you,
and I will greatly multiply your seed as the
stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on
the seashore and your seed shall possess the
gate of their enemies. In your seed all the
nations of the earth shall be blessed, because
you have obeyed My voice."
83rd warning--danger of not maturing 511-620
616-20 - Men swear by someone greater than
themselves, and the oath confirms what is said
and puts an end to all argument. Because God
wanted to make the unchanging nature of his
purpose very clear to the heirs of what was
promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did
this so that, by two un-changeable things in
which it is impos-sible for God to lie, we who
have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us
may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as
an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It
enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,
where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on
our behalf. He has become a high priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.

Thats how strongly God wanted to convince Abraham
Our hope in those 2 things is what anchors our
souls anchored in the very presence of God.
Hes no ordinary High Priest

71-3 - This Melchizedek was king of Salem and
priest of God Most High. He met Abraham
return-ing from the defeat of the kings and
blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of
everything. First, his name means "king of
righteousness" then also, "king of Salem" means
"king of peace." Without father or mother,
without genealogy, without begin-ning of days or
end of life, like the Son of God he remains a
priest forever.
Gen 1417-20 - Then after his return from the
defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were
with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him
at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's
Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought
out bread and wine now he was a priest of God
Most High. And he blessed him and said, "Blessed
be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven
and earth and blessed be God Most High, Who has
delivered your enemies into your hand. And he
gave him a tenth of all.
Melchizedek is named only in Gen. 1418 Psalm
1104 Heb. 56, 10 Heb. 620 Heb. 71, 10, 11,
15, 17
And thats all we know about Melchizedek!
11Ps 110 The Lord says to my Lord "Sit at My
right hand, Until I make Your enemies a footstool
for Your feet." 2 The Lord will stretch forth
Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in
the midst of Your enemies." 3 Your people will
volunteer freely in the day of Your power In
holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth
are to You as the dew. 4 The Lord has sworn and
will not change His mind, You are a priest
forever According to the order of Melchizedek."
5 The Lord is at Your right hand He will
shatter kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He will
judge among the nations, He will fill them with
corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a
broad country. 7 He will drink from the brook by
the wayside Therefore He will lift up His head.
Psalm 110 in the New Testament
Mt. 2241-46 Jesus says it is Messianic
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus
asked them, "What do you think about the Christ?
Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they
replied. He said to them, "How is it then that
David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'?
For he says, "'The Lord said to my Lord "Sit
at my right hand until I put your enemies under
your feet." ' If then David calls him 'Lord,'
how can he be his son?"
12Ps 110 The Lord says to my Lord "Sit at My
right hand, Until I make Your enemies a footstool
for Your feet." 2 The Lord will stretch forth
Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in
the midst of Your enemies." 3 Your people will
volunteer freely in the day of Your power In

the wayside Therefore He will lift up His head.
Psalm 110 in the New Testament
Mt. 2241-46 Jesus says it is Messianic
Acts 232-36 Peter uses it to show the
beginning of Jesus reign
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all
witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand
of God, he has received from the Father the
promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you
now see and hear. For David did not ascend to
heaven, and yet he said, "The Lord said to my
Lord Sit at my right hand until I make your
enemies a footstool for your feet." '
Therefore let all Israel be assured of this God
has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both
Lord and Christ."

for Your feet." 2 The Lord will stretch forth

of the Messiahs work
Then the end will come, when he hands over the
kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed
all dominion, author-ity and power. For he must
reign until he has put all his enemies under his
feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

As we saw in Gen. 14, Abraham paid him honor as
one superior to himself
King of righteousness and peace, no other king so
named Priest with no ancestor or descendent,
predecessor or successor
Priesthood of each was/is unbroken,
uninterrupted a complete whole in itself. Like
Jesus, he completely filled the entire era of his
priesthood

74-10 - Now observe how great this man was to
whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the
choicest spoils. And those in-deed of the sons
of Levi who receive the priest's office have
commandment in the Law to collect a tenth from
the people, that is, from their brethren,
although these are des-cended from Abraham. But
the one whose genealogy is not traced from them
collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed the
one who had the promises. But without any
dis-pute the lesser is blessed by the greater.
In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in
that case one receives them, of whom it is
witnessed that he lives on. And, so to speak,
through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes,
paid tithes, for he was still in the loins of his
father when Melchizedek met him.

Really, now who is greater than Abraham?!
Its remarkable enough that Levi could ask a
tithe of Abrahams descendentseven more so that
someone would collect it from the great Abraham!
If Abraham is less than Melchizedek, how much
less is Levi and his priesthood?
18Jesus Priest After the Order of Melchizedek
How Great Was Melchizedek?
Both King and Priest - of righteousness -
of peace - of the Most High God Priest
without peer - no predecessor or successor
- one of his kind - spanned his entire era of
time Greater than Abraham - took tithes from
blessed Abraham - superior to Abraham,
father of Israel. Therefore, he was -
superior to the whole priestly family of Levi
- Levites receive tithes but die Melchizedek
lives Greater than Levi - through
Abraham even Levi paid tithes , therefore, was
inferior to Melchizedek - His priesthood was
superior to Levis Was appointed to be a figure
of Jesus His Priesthood
19Jesus Priest After the Order of Melchizedek
What Is the Point?
1. Jesus, our great High Priest, is far superior
to Aaron to all the sons of Levi and
Aaron 2. His priesthood is like that of
Melchizedek, not like that of Levi King
Priest, without peer Ever living to make
intercession for us
20Superior in His Priestly Order 71-28
711-17 - If perfection could have been attained
through the Levitical priesthood (for on the
basis of it the law was given to the people), why
was there still need for another priest to
come-one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the
order of Aaron? For when there is a change of
the priesthood, there must also be a change of
the law. He of whom these things are said
belonged to a different tribe, and no one from
that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it
is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and
in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about
priests. And what we have said is even more clear
if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one
who has become a priest not on the basis of a
regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of
the power of an indes-tructible life. For it is
declared "You are a priest forever, in the
order of Melchizedek."

The whole Mosaic system was based on the
Levitical priesthood, but it could not bring
perfection.
Another needed, as seen by David in Ps. 2 110
Change the priesthood, have to change what was
built on it the Law its whole system
Jesus, as a High Priest from Judah, proves that
the Law no longer applies
Even more so when Jesus becomes H.P. completely
apart from the Law of Moses has nothing to do
with physical descentonly with His eternal
nature life.
