Title: SQM 2004 Summary: SQM, a STAR Qollaboration Meeting
1SQM 2004 SummarySQM, a STAR Qollaboration
Meeting?
- Paul Sorensen
- Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
2130 Participants
3- Charm was the centerpiece of the conference.
- Bare charm quark from NLO matches STAR D
measurements! - What about hadronization!?
4- STAR measurement in dAu is several sigma above
NLO pQCD. - The charm mass used to match the shape of the
spectrum does worse for the beam energy
dependence of the cross section. - Something is not under control maybe charm is
not massive enough for pQCD
5PHENIX
M. Van Leeuwen
- AuAu electron measurements insensitive so far
to scaling or suppression.
6F. Laue
- Apparently large D v2 after corrections
- Generated greatest interest of the conference.
7- NLO calculations fail to reproduce pp spectra
for identified particles why? - Fragmentation functions are not under control.
8Kaneta
Estienne
- STAR and PHENIX interpretations of phi slopes
differ. - The court of popular opinion sided with PHENIX
because they wanted to see feed-down corrected
STAR results.
9- CERES dilepton measurement disfavors the NA49
observation of phis in the lepton channel - Within overlapping range in Npart , NA60 on ??µµ
are close to those from NA49 on ? ?KK, but are
higher than those from NA50 on ? ?µµ
10- Marcus Bleicher v2/ltptgt saturates at ltptgt0.37
- UrQMD cannot reproduce the plateau this may be
evidence for an initial QGP pressure
11Moronga
Teaney
- Hydro second order terms solve accausality and
stability problems - Upper limit on viscosity is even lower than
predicted minimum advertised by Gyulassy.
12Quark-number scaling
- How would a quark dependence manifest itself in
v2 if v2 developed in a hadronic phase? - v2 is developed amongst quarks!
- Isnt v2 a long range correlation?
- ? to develop v2 quarks need to be deconfined
(over distances greater than hadron length
scales)!
13Jettiness the odd man out?
Can jettiness be accommodated within the same
picture that explains less suppression of baryon
yields AND a larger baryon v2? The Test can the
baryon/meson correlation structure be traced to
one unique quark/gluon correlation structure
(not is there a structure)?

14Jettiness at intermediate pT
Perhaps correlations amongst quarks and gluons
are mapped onto hadron correlations through
recombination.
