The Baptistry of St. John (Italian: Battistero di San Giovanni) is a religious building in Pisa, Italy. It started construction in 1152, in replacement of an older baptistry, and completed in 1363. It's the second building, in the chronological order, in the Piazza dei Miracoli, near the Cathedral and the famous Leaning Tower. The architect was Diotisalvi, whose signature can be read on two pillars inside the building, with the date 1153. The portal, facing the facade of the cathedral, is flanked by two classical columns, while the inner jambs are executed in Byzantine style. The lintel is divided in two tiers. The lower one depicts several episodes in the life of St. John the Baptist, while the upper one shows Christ between the Madonna and St John the Baptist, flanked by angels and the evangelists In 1987 the whole square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Gozo is an island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is part of the Southern European country of Malta; after the island of Malta itself, it is the second-largest island in the archipelago. For such a small island, Gozo has a high concentration of churches (46 in all). The Xewkija Church has a capacity of 3,000, enough for the entire population of Xewkija village; its dome is larger than that of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The church bells are rung daily for the canonical hours Matins, Lauds, Terce, Sext, None and vespers. The most famous church on the island is the National Shrine and Basilica of Santwarju tal-Madonna ta' Pinu.

"El cant dels ocells" (The song of the birds) is a traditional Catalan Christmas song and lullaby. It tells of nature's joy at learning of the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem. The song was made famous outside Catalonia by Pau Casals' instrumental version on the cello. After his exile in 1939, he would begin each of his concerts by playing this song. For this reason, it is often considered a symbol of Catalonia. Joan Baez included it in her 1966 bestselling Christmas LP, dedicating the song to Casals. In 1991, Catalan tenor Josep Carreras recorded "El cant dels ocells" on his album, José Carreras Sings Catalan Songs. His Three Tenors colleague, Plácido Domingo, who is himself part Catalan, also recorded the song on his 2014 album, Encanto del Mar.

SLIDESHOW - Collection of artworks. Quinces hold diverse symbolic meanings across cultures; they are commonly associated with love and romance, symbolising the enduring sweetness of relationships. Additionally, quinces represent fertility and abundance, often bestowed as wishes for prosperity to newlyweds. The fruit’s duality, starting tart but turning sweet when cooked, is linked to patience and temperance.… In Italy the golden quince was symbolic of the Resurrection: in Christian doctrine, incarnation presumed resurrection, hence the quince’s popularity in images of the Madonna.

Stefano Bardini (1836–1922) was an Italian connoisseur and art dealer in Florence who specialized in Italian paintings, Renaissance sculpture, cassoni and other Renaissance and Cinquecento furnishings and architectural fragments. Working as a restorer many well-known works of Renaissance art bear a Bardini provenience. The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, has some twenty works that passed through his hands, notably the Benedetto da Maiano Madonna and Child, the Bernardo Daddi Saint Paul and the Portrait of a Youth by Filippino Lippi. The Metropolitan Museum of Art conserves eight paintings that Bardini once owned, including Veronese's Boy with a Greyhound, and Giovanni di Paolo's Coronation of the Virgin from the Robert Lehman collection. His bequest to the city of Florence resulted in the opening of the Museo Bardini in 1923; the Giardino Bardini across from it is also his legacy
For the first time, the State Hermitage Museum provides an important core of the sixteenth century Lombard paintings, 22 works from his collection, many of which were considered until the nineteenth century original works by Leonardo. These, together with many paintings of Pavia collections will lead the visitor to discover how the Tuscan Master has determined and made possible new artistic developments in Lombardy; a new season where followers and imitators of the Master acquired, interpreted and spread the new artistic style created by Leonardo.
Florence's museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The most popular and important sites in Florence include the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural genius.
