Title: Jana Janakieva
1Rain Forest
Jana Janakieva
2DISAPPERING
- We are losing 137 plant and animal species every
single day - 78 million acres lost every year
- Massive deforestation brings with it many
consequences
3People living in the Rain Forests
- What Is Happening To The Forest People?
4Deforestation for agriculture and ranching,
mining, and road building all pose major threats
to this region. Other threats include introduced
species, small-scale logging, wildlife
exploitation, and hydroelectric projects.
Increased colonization of the area will be of
great concern in the near future and will bring
more hunting pressure. Uncontrolled tourism is a
subject of current debate, though the long-term
effects are not yet known.

12Some facts
- Rainforests currently provide sources for
one-fourth of today's medicines - 70 percent of the plants found to have
anticancer properties are found only in the
rainforest - Eight out of ten children are now saved, rather
than eight of ten children dying from leukemia. - Experts now believe that if there is a cure for
cancer and even AIDS, it will probably be found
in the rainforest.
