IHEAC Terms of Reference
- IHEAC will provide policy advice to the Minister
on - Identifying and developing strategies to improve
student outcomes - Developing Indigenous research culture for staff
and post graduates - Strengthening the institutional responsibility
for improving student outcomes and the role of
Indigenous Support/Education Units - Strategies for increasing the employment
opportunities and career paths for Indigenous
higher education staff - Identifying and promoting best practice in
Indigenous education - Encouraging Indigenous content in courses to
ensure that all graduates understand Indigenous
cultures - The promotion and protection of Indigenous
intellectual property

TAFE colleges and other registered training
organisations to build pathways and raise levels
of aspiration and confidence of Indigenous

Where to From Here Recommendations
- 1. That in 2007 an Indigenous higher education
summit be held involving - all Chancellors, VCs and other university
leaders - education research and project leaders
- key education policy thinkers and practitioners
- in discussion on possible ways forward

Where to From Here Recommendations
- We recommend the AVCC take leadership of this
initiative through the leadership group as per
rec 2 below - 2. To assist facilitation of the summit and
address the recommendations of IHEACs 3 reports
to date a leadership group involving 4 Vice
Chancellors and 4 IHEAC members be established

- 3. Recommendations and outcomes of the summit and
leadership group discussions form the basis of
the 2007 IHEAC conference
