Title: Matthew 6v118
1Matthew 6v1-18
Introduction Beatitudes Characteristics that
should be evident in the Children of God
Characteristics that reflect the nature of God
and were present in the life of Jesus.
2Jesus is dealing with the religiosity of His day.
Emphasis on outward observance of the law. But a
neglect of the heart attitude
The Kingdom of God is to do with our relationship
with God through Jesus Christ. Not of outward
observance but devotion of the heart
This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord. I will put my
laws in their hearts, and I will write them on
their minds Hebrews 10v16
3Woe to you teachers of the law and Pharisees,
you hypocrites! You are like white washed tombs,
which look beautiful on the outside but on the
inside are full of dead mens bones and
everything unclean Matthew 23v27
In chapter 6 Jesus challenges these religious
people- who clearly were more concerned with what
others thought about them, than what God thought
about them
What you are in private is more important than
what you are in public
4They all joined together constantly in prayer,
along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus
and with the brothers Acts 1v4
They devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching
and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and to prayer Acts 2v42
They raised their voices together in prayer to
God Acts 4v24
5'Although the disciples are to be seen doing good
works they must not do good works to be seen'
Levertoff
