4What is ISOTONIX Coenzyme Q10?
5Coenzyme Q10 is an Advanced System For Cellular
Maintenance.
Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that
protects the body from free radicals and helps
preserve vitamin E. The role of Coenzyme Q10 in
energy formation also relates to how the body
uses carbohydrates.
6Where is Coenzyme Q10 found in food?
CoQ10 is found primarily in fish and meat, but
the amounts in food are far less than what can be
obtained from supplements. but the amounts in
food are far less than what can be obtained from
supplements. it would take approximately 3
pounds of sardines, 7 pounds of beef, to equal
100 mg of supplemental CoQ10.
7Where is Coenzyme Q10found in the body?
- Virtually every cell of the human body contains
Coenzyme Q10. - The mitochondria, the area of cells where energy
is produced, contain the most CoQ10.
8Aging
- As we age, our body's production of CoQ10
declines by as much as 80

10Mitochondria - power plant within the cell
11Biochemical processes within mitochondria - a
continuous cycle of ATP (energy) production
CoQ10 plays an important role in these processes
to transform food into the energy on which the
body runs, ATP.
12How do you get your energy?
Eat your hearts out!
13CoQ10 is used by the body to transform food into
energy.
14Because the body must have energy available to
perform even the simplest operation,Coenzyme Q10
is considered essential for the body's cells,
tissues and organs. Even though the body has the
ability to produce CoQ10, deficiencies have been
reported in a range of clinical conditions.
15Coenzyme Q10 can improve health situations of
patients with different symptoms.
16Coenzyme Q10 May Stave off Migraine
17NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 10 - Treatment
with coenzyme Q10 appears to be effective in
preventing migraine, according to findings of an
open-label study. The investigators "utilized
coenzyme Q10--an essential element of the
mitochondrial electron transport chain-- as a
migraine preventive because of the possible role
that mitochondrial dysfunction may play in
migraine pathogenesis, lead researcher Dr. Todd
D. Rozen told Reuters Health. "Coenzyme Q10 is
the most extensively studied agent for the
treatment of mitochondrial disorders."
18High blood pressure
Coenzyme Q10 Improves High Blood Pressure 1/9/03
- Healthnotes NewswireCoenzyme Q10 is an
effective treatment for people with a common type
of high blood pressure, according to a clinical
trial published in the Southern Medical Journal.
19Coenzyme Q10 increases oxygenation to the heart
and has been shown to prevent recurrences in
people who have had a heart attack.
20- The heart and liver contain the greatest
- amount of CoQ10.
- Research results show improvement of
- patients taking Co Q10 with the following
- heart conditions
- congestive heart failure -
- that results when the heart muscle is unable to
pump blood - as efficiently as is needed.
- heart arrhythmias - irregular heartbeats
- atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
- Angina - chest pain due to reduced blood flow to
the heart
21Fibromyalgia
Many nutritionally oriented physicians will
suggest that their patients give this supplement
a try, especially to improve flagging energy
levels. This is because there are
substantial coenzyme Q10 levels in muscle tissue,
and depletion could well produce symptoms of
fatigue.
22Infertility
A sperm cell has a lot of mitochondria, which
provide energy (ATP) for its motility
23Synthesis of sperm requires considerable energy.
Due to its role in energy production, CoQ10 has
been studied in infertile men. Preliminary
research reports that supplementation of CoQ7, a
related molecule, increased sperm counts in a
group of infertile men
24Periodontal disease
Healing of periodontal tissue (the gums of the
mouth) may require increased energy production
therefore, researchers have explored the effects
of CoQ10 supplementation in people with
periodontal disease, which has been linked
to CoQ10 deficiency. Double-blind research shows
that people with gum disease given CoQ10 achieve
better results than those given a placebo.
25Diabetes
The role of CoQ10 in energy formation also
relates to how the body uses carbohydrates.
Preliminary research suggests that a close
relative of this nutrient lowered blood sugar
levels in a group of people with diabetes. People
with type 2 diabetes have been found to have
significantly lower blood levels of
CoQ10 compared with healthy people.
26Parkinson disease
Previous studies carried out by Dr. Shults,
Richard Haas, M.D., of UCSD and Flint Beal, M.D.,
of Cornell University have shown that coenzyme
Q10 levels in mitochondria in Parkinson's disease
patients are reduced and that mitochondrial
function in these patients is impaired. Also
coenzyme Q10 can get rid of oxidative free
radicals which damage nerve cells.
27Some cholesterol lowering drugs inhibit normal
CoQ10 synthesis. Supplementation is advisable.
28Cancer
Coenzyme Q10's antioxidant actions can be
enlisted to stop the free-radical damage believed
to cause certain cancers. Several small studies
have shown a benefit for people with breast or
prostate cancer. Other findings indicate that
coenzyme Q10 boosts the immune system, possibly
helping to limit the spread of cancerous tissue.
Clearly more research is needed. There is some
evidence of coenzyme Q (CoQ) being effective in
treating some side effects of cancer
treatment, e.g. heart (cardiac) toxicity from
chemotherapy
29Weight Loss
The supplement has also been shown to bolster
natural weight loss by speeding the body's
metabolism of fat.
30How much is usually taken? Adult levels of
supplementation are usually 3090 mg per day
31Which form of coenzyme Q10 is absorbed the best?
Some research suggests that a fat-soluble form of
CoQ10 is absorbed better than CoQ10 in granular
(powder) form.
32ISOTONIX Coenzyme Q10 With Vitamin E
is fat-soluble, and isotonic to all body
fluids the best form to be absorbed and utilized
by the body.
