Some rattlesnakes are large and some are
small. The Diamondback has diamond shaped
blotches edged with yellow. Most rattlesnakes are
grayish green marked with brown patches. There
are about 30 species of rattlesnakes on
Earth. They are classed among the pit vipers.
The rattlesnake belongs to the family called
Crotalidae. Their tails are made up of horny
pieces loosely joined together. Rattlesnakes are
covered with scales. Under the scales there is
skin. The skin stretches easily under the
skin. Belly scales help make the rattlesnake
move. The Diamondback is 20 pounds. Most
rattlesnakes are 7 and a half feet long. Few are
two feet long. Diamondbacks are 8 feet long when
full grown. The Pygmies are 18 inches long when
full grown. Prairie rattlesnakes are 3 feet long
when full grown. Timber rattlesnakes are 6 feet
long when full grown.

- The rattlesnake eats small mammals, amphibians,
reptiles, insects, and spiders. - Baby rattlesnakes can take full care of them
selves. - Rattlesnakes arent born alive.

- They live in some dry regions.

Argentina, U.S., Mexico, and South America. - The rattlesnake hibernates during the winter.

- They camouflage if the background is rocks or
sand. - The rattlesnake is said to catch a running horse.
- Enemies of the rattlesnake are the hawk, eagle,
owl, roadrunner, fox, weasel, coyote, wildcat,
badger, prairie dog, deer, king snake, and
people.
