Title: The Rattlesnake

1
The Rattlesnake
  • A deadly and venomous snake

2
Habitat
  • Rattlesnakes inhabit low elevation sandy areas,
long-leaf pine forests, pine flatwoods, sand hill
communities, turkey oak forests, live oak
hammocks, pine ridges or coastal areas. So if
youre to ever go in a place like that, watch
out! You do not want to be seen by a rattlesnake.

3
Dangers
  • When you encounter a rattlesnake, you have to
watch out. Even though rattlesnakes attack only
when threatened, they can be dangerous.
Rattlesnakes have a venomous bite that can either
harm you dangerously or worse, kill you, if not
    treated immediately.
  • Rattlesnakes have really sharp fangs?

4
Preventing Attacks
  • First, you have to know where rattlesnakes live.
Rattlesnakes prefer hot climates, but others,
like Diamondback snake, prefer a moist climate.
It is also important to have a buddy with you if
you are hiking, because if you get bitten, your
    partner can call an ambulance.
  • If you get in the way of a rattlesnake, back off
CALMLY. Do not make fast and agitated movements,
because this might make the snake feel
    threatened.
  • Do not provoke the rattlesnake. Remember,
rattlesnakes only attack when they feel
    threatened or angered.
  • Leave the snake alone. Many people get bitten in
the process of trying to heroically get rid of
the snake. The snake will try to defend itself,
    and consequences are not pleasant.
  • When you go camping, always check out the place
before setting up the tents. There might just be
a rattlesnake out there. You never know.

5
Interesting Facts
  • About 8,500 people in the United States get
bitten every year by rattlesnakes, and 9 of them
    die from the bite.
  • The rattlesnakes rattle can be heard up to 60
    feet away.
  • Rattlesnakes can only hear vibrations-they cant
    even hear other snakes rattles.
  • Scientists have identified over 36 types of
    rattlesnakes.
  • Rattlesnakes are usually about 2.4 meters long.
  • The average lifespan of a rattlesnake is about 20
    years.
