Title: DSLAM
1DSLAM
- Digital Subscriber Access Multiplexer
2Definition
- A DSLAM is a Network Device, usually placed
at a Telephone Company Central Office, That
Receives Signals from multiple customer of DSL
Connections and puts the signals on a high-speed
backbone line using Multiplexing Techniques. - DSLAM multiplexers connect DSL lines with
some combination of Asynchronous Transfer mode
(ATM), Frame Relay, or Internet Protocol
Networks. - DSLAM enables a phone company to offer
business or home users the fastest Phone Line
Technology (DSL) with the fastest backbone
Network Technology (ATM).

- Technology Adopted by DSLAM equipment including
ATM and IP - ATM uplink rate --155Mbit/s
- IP uplink rate--100Mbits/s,1000Mbits/s (Ethernet)
6Differences between ATM DSLAM and IP DSLAM
- ATM DSLAM uplink ATM / Ethernet switch or BAS
- IP DSLAM uplink Ethernet switch or BAS
- ATM DSLAM ATM cell ended on uplink board(if ip
uplink) - IP DSLAM ATM cell ended on subscriber
board - ATM DSLAM internal switch based on ATM
- IP DSLAM internal switch based on IP

12 Shelf Configuration
- Mode 1 Holding subscriber cards without built-in
splitters and splitter cards together,
implementing broadband data service and
narrowband voice service access at the same time.
13 Shelf Configuration
- Mode 2 Holding subscriber cards with built-in
splitter cards only, implementing broadband data
service and narrowband voice service access at
the same time.
14 Shelf Configuration
15Backplane of DSLAM
- Subscriber shelf supports three backplanes
- MDCA Supports broad/narrow-band integrated
service access - Mechanical support for all cards and works
with the control and switch card - MDCE Supports pure broadband service access
- MDCF Backplane works with the control and switch
card to supports larger bandwidth, each slots
bandwidth reaching up to 4 GE. Provides two 10G
interface uplink slots. - Splitter shelf supports only one backplane e.g.
MTAN.
16CSC Board Feature
- The CSC board resides in slot 9 and 11.The CSC
board cannot reside in other slots. - Height 9U
- Core of switching and controlling for the system,
providing a series of ports and powerful
switching capability on the backplane. - DSLAM can be configured with one single CSC card
or dual active/standby CSC cards. When the active
and standby CSC cards are running, the standby
CSC card performs hot backup for the active CSC
card.
17ATNG CARD Feature
- Implementing the conversion between the ATM and
the Ethernet - Provide 32 lines of ADSL access for subscribers.
The subscriber data - are transferred through PSTN networks.
- Built-in splitter
- Provide LED indicator, 32 link LED indicators,
sockets, and - reset button
18System Feature Overview
- DSLAM can Integrating Data, Voice and Video
- Carrier-Class Reliability
- Hot-swap of Subscriber Boards
- Many Service Interfaces (ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2/
SHDSL/ VDSL2/EPON/GPON) - Multicast Feature (MVLAN,CAC,PRV,CDR,IGMP v2)
- Full DiffServ Mode QoS for Triple-Play
- Multiple Maintenance Modes (CLI, Telnet, SNMP)
- CPE Remote Management
19Base Capacity Features
- Supporting 16K MAC
- Supporting 4K VLANs
- Supporting 255 1K IP Multicast Groups
- Supporting 512 Traffic Classes
