Title: AN OVERVIEW ON FLARE GAS RECOVERY

AN OVERVIEW ON FLARE GAS RECOVERY A.Darami Zadeh

  • The visual flare is a sign of wasted resources
    and pollution
  • FLARE GAS RECOVERY SYSTEM eliminates the need for
continuous flaring of gas on oil and gas
    producing facilities and petrochemical plants
  • By using this systems we can recover VALUABLE
flare gases, compressing them back into the plant
for use as feedstock, fuel or product.
  • This technology also reduces plant emissions of
combustion by-products such as NOx, CO, and CO2.

3
Reduce. Recover. Reuse.
  • Flare gas recovery benefits
  • Environmental Control With Serious Payback
  • Reduced facility emissions
  • Reduced purchase gas requirements and/or
    increased salable gas
  • Extended flare-tip life
  • Reduced steam consumption

According to the Kyoto Protocol
  • projects should result in
  • Real, measurable and long-term benefits related
to the mitigation of climate change reductions
in emissions (Art. 12, 5, bc).

Percentage of Gas Flaring in Indonesia, 1981
2003Over the last 20 years, gas flaring as a
share of total gas produced has been reduced by a
factor of 4

Possible sources of unknown flare flow
  • Relief valves or PSVs will leak due to
corrosion, fouling, or from mechanical damage.
  • Block valves can seal poorly due to any number
of problems, including normal wear of the valve
    seat.
  • Poor pressure control causing cyclic pressure
swings can cause a rupture disk to lose its seal,
or a relief valve to chatter damaging the seat
    of the valve.
  • Higher than normal operating system backpressure
due to fouling will cause some systems to relieve
    intermittently.
