Title: Energy Conversion and Conservation
1Energy Conversion and Conservation
2Class Agenda 9.10.07
- Starter Anticipation Guide
- Read about Energy Conversion and the Law of
Conservation of Energy - Short discussion the conversion of energy
(Real-life examples) - The conservation of energy
- Homework
- Complete rest of the Anticipation Guide
- Energy Collage
3Energy Collage
- Create an Energy Collage (100 points)
- Find a picture of 5 different working systems
(Bicycle, Hair Dryer, etc.) (30 points) - Paste/Tape them onto a piece of construction
paper, neatly. (10 pts) - Provide a caption for each picture. In each
caption trace the form energy throughout the
system. (45) - Identify the primary form of energy.
- Identify all other forms of energy during the
energy conversion. - Write a caption tracing each form of energy
conversion throughout the system. - Show your creative spirit (15 points)
- Title is Visible and Stands OUT
- Organization of information makes it easy to read
and understand - The collage is very interesting.
- Please staple this scoring guide in the upper
left hand corner of your collage. - Due on 9/11/07
4Objectives 9.11.07 Pg. 16
- The students will be able to describe what
happens to energy as it moves through a system. - The students will be able to explain how the law
of conservation of energy applies to different
real world systems. - The students will be able to compare energy
conversion in a closed system versus an open
system.
515.2 Energy Conversion Before After
Energy can be converted from one form to another.
2. Energy can either be created or destroyed.
3. When an object falls, potential energy is being converted into kinetic energy.
4. Matter cannot be converted into energy.
5. Friction causes heat to be released.
6. Energy conversion is the changing of energy from one form to another.
7. In a closed circuit (lamp), electrical energy is converted into light and heat energy.
8. When a match is struck against a match box, the chemical energy is converted into light energy, only

7Pictures of Energy
- A. Create an Energy Collage (100 points)
- Find one picture of 5 working systems (Bicycle,
Hair Dryer, etc.) (30 points) - Paste/Tape them onto a piece of construction
paper, neatly. (10 pts) - Provide a caption for each picture. Inside the
caption trace the energy as it converts from one
form to another throughout the system.
- Due on 9.10.07
8Pictures of Energy Presentation 9.10.07
- Each student will give a two minute presentation
on their energy collage - They will answer the following questions in their
presentation - Identify the system of energy flow you reviewed.
- What was the primary source of energy?
- Identify at least three different energy
transformations that occurred throughout the
system, as the primary energy moved throughout
the system. - What was the final result.
- During the presentation, each student will take
notes. (They will at least trace the flow of
energy through the system and identify at least
three energy transformations that occurred.
9Energy Conversion Demonstrations
- Plugging in a lamp
- Trace energy conversion through a lamp systems as
electrical energy flows from an energy resource
through the lamp system. - Build an electromagnet
- Trace the energy conversion through an
electromagnet system as electrical energy flows
from an energy resource through the electromagnet
system. - Riding a bike
- Trace the energy conversion through a bike system
as energy flows from an energy source throughout
the bike system -
