Title: Texas Water Resource Maps:
1Texas Water Resource Maps Regions A o, Texas
panhandle
Ogallala Aquifer
2This map shows all counties in the Texas
Panhandle that overly part of the Ogallala
aquifer.
3Next shown is the number of main pivot irrigation
fields in the Panhandle. Notice where the clumps
of green is now. Water depletion rates will be
higher in these areas because of more
agriculture.
4This map shows water depletion. Red zones in the
map shows areas where the Ogallala aquifer is
rapidly losing water and may dry up soon. Notice
how most locations are threatened.
5This map shows water level changes. Red areas
show extreme changes in water level.
6This map shows aquifer saturated thickness. All
tan areas have decreasing saturated thicknesses
while the blue areas have increasing ones. It is
obvious here that nearly the entire Texas
Panhandle has major water problems for the future.
7Comparing these two maps, we can see where the
saturated thickness dropped in many areas from
1990 to 2004. Since this was only 14 years, this
aquifer is heading for depletion very soon if
these rates continue.
