  • John Heminges and Henry Condell preserved his 36
plays To keep the memory of so worthy a friend
    and fellow alive

18
THE MYSTERYYYYY???
  • His younger daughter Judith was illiterate
  • His other daughter Susanna could do no more than
    sigh her name
  • Shakespeares parents John and Mary were also
    illiterate
  • No evidence he ever attended school
  • A document with 6 signatures spelled and written
    in different ways
  • A record by Jane Cox
  • but no clear, material proof to counter the
argument that Shakespeare was totally illiterate.
