Title: They are the women of the Victorian Era,
1They are the women of the Victorian Era, the
moral guardians. They cure whatever is wrong
with the industrial situation, not satisfied
with the results of present day standards of
morality, No one is punished for exploiting,
demeaning, murdering the spirit so they stand and
protest and sacrifice for the good of
America. But those are the women of the wealthy
class Who do not have to work, who live in
comfortable homes. For ages they have had all the
good things of life, while to the others have
borne the heaviest burden of privation and
suffering Food has to be cooked, clothes mended
and laundered, rooms cleaned, and children
tended. They are financially responsible, but
work brin gs but poor pay. To survive, they are
frequently compelled, induced to become mill
girls, prostitutes, subjected to influences
that must destroy their purity and
self-respect too busy, too poor to fight the
moral struggle. Such high wages have been
offered. They make every attempt to strike off
the shackles of slavery But are met with
argument such acts are the downfall of
morality, not its protection. It is not fair. It
is not fair that want and degradation should
force them, Deny them their roles As the moral
guardians
