Title: Monday, September 21st

Monday, September 21st
Entry Task Please get a new entry task brochure
from front desk On the forms of energy worksheet
on page 17 in your notebook, write if each form
of energy is Potential or is Kinetic.
PEPotential, KEKinetic. On the back of that
worksheet add elastic energy (page 76) and
gravitational energy (page 427) and write a
description for each, give an example and
identify if it is KE or PE
  • Schedule
  • Energy types and forms
  • Energy conservation
  • Objective
  • I can identify the different types and forms of
energy and I can explain how energy is conserved
when it changes from one form to another
  • Homework
  • Finish Reading 3.2. Complete page 18 and 19 in
    notebook
  • Please Have on Desk
  • Forms of E worksheet

3.2 Notes Read pg 78-81 Trace your hand on page
18 of your composition notebook. On the palm of
your hand, write down _at_ least 1 big idea from
your reading On the fingers, write down details.

Energy Conversion and Conservation
  • Label page 19 Energy Conversion and
    Conservation
  • Energy can be converted from one type to the
other and from one form to another.
  • Read page 82-83 and answer the following
    questions, IQIA
  • What is the law of conservation of energy?
  • Is energy ever lost when converting from one
form/type to another? Is it ever gained?
  • What is energy efficiency?
  • If something is not efficient, where does the
    energy go? Is it lost?

Tuesday, September 22nd
  • Entry Task
  • Your cell phone turns one form of energy into
another. What form of energy does a cell phone
begin with and what form(s) are created as a
    result of using your phone?
  • Schedule
  • Energy Conservation and conversions
  • Objective
  • I can explain how energy is always conserves and
how it is converted from one form to another
  • Homework
  • Energy Conversion comic
  • Please have on your desk
  • Page 18 and 19 in notebook

11
Possible Answer
  • Cell phones require electrical energy in order to
work (Could start with Chemical energy in
    battery)
  • Electrical energy is turned into sound energy,
electromagnetic energy (light or radio waves) and
    thermal energy
  • A cell phone is a device that CONVERTS or
    TRANSFERS energy

Wednesday, September 23rd
  • Entry Task
  • Grab a Salmon colored sheet off the front desk.
Answer the two questions for step 1. Make sure to
    use full sentences, IQIA.
  • Glue this sheet onto page 22 in your notebook and
title it Conservation of energy close read.
  • You will need to glue other papers on page 22 as
well so only glue top part down.
  • Schedule
  • Conservation of energy close read
  • Objective
  • I can review the different forms of energy and
    energy conversions
  • I can use context clues to define new vocabulary
  • Homework
  • Complete Vocab (not dictionary definition
  • Please have on your desk
  • Energy Conversion Comic

19
Thursday, September 24th
  • Entry Task
  • Your homework from yesterday will be officially
due tomorrow. Open your notebook up to the very
    last page
  • Schedule
  • Computer lab day
  • Objective
  • I can describe the objective of this unit.
  • I will understand what simulation is and how it
    is used.
  • Homework
  • None
  • Please have on your desk
  • Science Notebook

20
What is Simulation?
  • Computer App Session 1

21
What is Simulation?
  • Learning Objectives
  • I can describe the objective of this unit.
  • I will understand what simulation is and how it
    is used.

22
What will we learn and do?
  • Define a simulation
  • Analyze a simple simulation
  • Use Scratch to build simulations for gravity,
    exponential growth, and energy production

23
What will we learn and do?
  • Work in groups to come up with your own physics
    simulation
  • Design and build your simulation
  • Test and improve your simulation
  • Present your simulation to the class

24
How does Chemistry apply to us?
  • You are a model of chemistry!
  • You are about 70 water (H2O) and the rest is a
lot of other chemicals combined together.
  • Your body is a mixture of solids, liquids, and
    gases.
  • Every second of every day, you have chemical
    processes and energy transformations occurring.

25
Chemistry is why your blood type matters!
  • If you lose a lot of blood, you get a blood
    transfusion.
  • It is important to get the right kind of blood or
you could be seriously hurt or even die.
  • Hospitals test blood to see what type it is. Do
    you know your blood type?

26
Blood Typing
  • People have blood type A, B, AB, or O. (O blood
    has neither A nor B.)
  • Their blood can also be Rh or Rh-.
  • If you give a transfusion with blood that has A
or B, and the patients blood does not have that,
they will have a bad reaction. You can give type
    O blood to any patient.
  • Rh blood can only go to an Rh patient, Rh-
blood can go to any patient.

27
Create a Hypothesis
  • Question If a person has B- type blood, what
type of blood transfusion would they be
    compatible with?
  • Make an If, then, because statement.

28
Watch as I demonstrate

You may now log in
  • Go to http//www.nobelprize.org/educational/medici
    ne/bloodtypinggame/
  • Click on Play the Blood Typing Game
  • Click on Proceed once the game is loaded.
  • Click on Quick game same patients (the last
    card)
  • Click on Proceed

30
Log out of your computer
  • In groups of 4,
  • Each person has about 30 seconds to share what
    they learned.
  • Now discuss,
  • What is a simulation?
  • Why do you think people use simulations?
  • Can you name other simulations you have seen or
    used?

31
Possible answers
  • Simulation is something that looks and acts like
    something, but isnt real.
  • Simulation is used for practice (flight
    simulators, surgery), entertainment (SIM games),
    research (scientific simulation)
  • Simulations they might know about flight,
    driving, boats, surgery, architecture,
    engineering, military, games
  • Simulations often use computers, but they dont
    have to

32
Friday, September 25th
  • Entry Task
  • Share the definitions that you created for the
vocabulary words for the close read with the
person sitting next to you. Make any changes you
    may need after a discussion.
  • Schedule
  • Conservation of energy close read
  • Objective
  • I can closely read a text and use the text to
    answer questions
  • Homework
  • Finish Questions if not done in class
  • Please have on your desk
  • Notebook open to page 23

33
Dictionary Definitions
  • Fundamental serving as, or being an essential
part of, a foundation of basis basic underlying
  • Fixed not fluctuating or varying definite
  • Wasted done to no avail useless
  • Chemical a substance produced by or used in a
    chemical process
  • Friction the rubbing of a surface of one object
    against another object
  • Mechanical physical motion
