6And God spake all these words, saying, I am the
Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the
land of Egypt, out if the house of bondage, thou
shalt have no other gods before me, Thou shalt
not make unto thee any graven image, or any
likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or
that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the
water under the earth
7Thou shalt not bow down thy self to them, nor
serve them for I the LORD am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of
them that hate me And showing unto thousands of
them that love me and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20 1-6.
8Little children keep yourselves from idols, amen.
1 John 5 21.
9But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O
Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear
not for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee
by thy name thou art mine. When thou passest
through the waters, I will be with thee and
through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee
when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt
not be burned neither shall the flame be kindle
upon thee. Isaiah 43 1,2.

be. Rev.2212.
22APPLICATION
23The event on the plain of Dura is the first
recorded instance of a government attempting to
achieve conformity worship. King Nebuchadnezzar
attempted to enforce uniformity of worship by
attaching a death decree to the golden image.
According to prophecy, Gods people in the time
of the end will face a similar decree through
modern Babylon.
24A comparison between Daniel 3 and Revelation 13
11-18 indicates that (1) That the issue is
worship in both chapters (2) Both chapters have
an image to worship, one literal, the other a
spiritual one (3) In Daniel 3 literal Babylon
demanded this worship, while in Revelation 13
spiritual Babylon will require the worship of the
image to the Beast (4) The three Hebrews faced
death. In the future, church and state will unite
to enforce uniformity of worship. Those who
refuse will face economic boycott and ultimately,
also the death penalty (Rev.1315)
25LESSONS TO LEARN FROM CHAPTER THREE
1. In the great controversy between Christ and
Satan the believer is always on the winning side
(Rom.828).
262. Throughout history Gods children have always
received help in times of need (Heb.416). The
three Hebrews were already committed to the
flames before they knew precisely what form that
grace would take. Would it be the grace of
deliverance or the grace to die well for Gods
glory? Only in the moment of trial did it become
clear exactly how God would show His
faithfulness.
273. The issue of idolatry is not confined to the
past. Anything that replaces God in the lives of
His people today can become an idol. John Calvin
said, the human mind is a factory of
idols.pleasure seeking, the acquisition of
knowledge, or material wealth, or watching
television, can become idols. The essence of
modern idolatry is the idol of self. To avoid
bowing to this idol in any of its manifestations
we must direct our worship to Jesus, who alone is
the image of the invisible God (Col.115)
284. The final lesson we can take away from the
whole hearted commitment of the three Hebrews
is There is no limit to the usefulness of one
who, putting self aside, make room for the
working of the Holy Spirit upon his heart and
lives a life wholly consecrated to God.

29CONCLUSION
So far in the book of Daniel, we have seen the
young Hebrews tested on the subject of appetite.
Did they passed the test? Yes! Four did.
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. They
were tested on their reliance on God to reveal to
them the king forgotten dream and its meaning.
Did they passed the test? They were tested on the
subject of loyalty to the worship of Jehovah, the
supreme God. Did they passed
this test also?
Yes with flying colors, they refused to worship
idols.
