Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great
waters, and thy footsteps are not known. Psalm
7719
3
Scripture references to oceans
  • Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake
forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? When
I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick
darkness a swaddling band for it, And brake up
for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no
further and here shall thy proud waves be
    stayed?

  • Job 388-11

4
Ocean Origin?
  • Secular science does not know where the oceans
    came from
  • The origin of the water in the oceans is
    unclear.

Environmental Sciences
5
Ocean Origin?
  • There are several theories about the origin of
the seas, but no single theory explains all
    aspects of this puzzle.

- Herbert Swenson US Geological Survey Publication
6
Water . . . from space?
  • For decades many planetary scientists speculated
that water for the oceans came from a rain of
comets (so to speak) over millions of years
  • But further research (a 1999 Caltech study) threw
a wet blanket on this idea.

7
Early Earth Cold vs. Hot
  • According to evolution, Earth began as a molten
rock with no water. This is speculation only (no
one was there to observe and take notes).
  • Scripture teaches Earth began as a non-molten
planet covered with water (Genesis12) - we have
the word of One who was there and left us a
    written record.

8
The Age Of The Earth
  • What will the Christian listen to
  • Secular science
  • or
  • Scripture?

9
Geologic Ages
  • Scripture says not a word in regard to this
    secular philosophy

10
Billions of years old?
  • The Lord Jesus was a young-earth creationist
  • He was there at The Beginning (John1) and taught
that men and women were made essentially at the
same time as the cosmos itself - from the
    beginning (Mark106).
  • (See also Luke1150 John 844)

11
Since The World Began. . .
  • ...God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy
    prophets since the world began.
  • Acts
    321

World-wide Young Earth Indicators
The Oceans The Continents The Sea-floor The
Atmosphere
13
What about radiometric dating?
  • Christians need to remember that calculations
(e.g. U decaying to Pb) leading to billions of
years are based on the arbitrary assumption of
uniformitarianism, which is not only unprovable,
but contrary to Scripture (see II Peter 33-6).

14
Invertebrates
animals without a backbone
  • A vast majority of creatures of the seas are
those without a backbone and include corals, sea
slugs, worms, brachiopods, jellies, sea stars,
clams, and arthropods (the phylum Arthropoda is
the largest group of animals on Earth -
    according to S.J. Gould).

15
Crustaceans
  • The most familiar of the arthropods are crabs and
lobsters which belong to the group called the
    crustaceans.
  • Where did they come from?
    Evolutionists do not know

16
Arthropod origin?
  • As Darwin noted in the Origin of Species, the
abrupt emergence of arthropods in the fossil
record during the Cambrian presents a problem for
evolutionary biology. There are no obvious
simpler or intermediate forms either living or
in the fossil record that show convincingly how
    modern arthropods evolved from worm-like
ancestors. Consequently there has been a wealth
of speculation and contention about relationships
    between the arthropod lineages.

Whitington. 1997. The evolution of arthropod
nervous systems. American Scientists, May-Jun.

17
Fish Origin?
18
Fish origin?
Yet the transition from
spineless invertebrates
to the first backboned fishes
is still shrouded in mystery, and many theories
abound...

Origin of whales?
  • ...the evolutionary origin of whales remains
    controversial among zoologists.

Living fossils
  • A living Jurassic shrimp (Neoglyphea
caledonica) was recently discovered alive well
in the Coral Sea. Evolutionists thought the
shrimp was extinct for 50 million years !

about Genesis and science.
23
Tsunamis
the power of water unleashed
24
The Indian Ocean Tsunami of
December 2004
  • A magnitude 9.0 earthquake shook the Sunda Trench
    area the day after Christmas
  • The seafloor opened an area the length and half
the width of California (1,200 kilometer-long
    rupture)
  • Energy released was equivalent to about 100
    Hiroshima-magnitude atomic bombs

25
Past tsunami evidence
  • We can observe wash marks on the shore and
indirectly in the form of large landslides,
scarps (a line of cliffs formed by faulting) and
debris piles lying on the deep ocean floor.

26
Mexicos Yucatan peninsula
  • One of the largest landslide-generated tsunamis
yet proposed occurred when the entire continental
shelf surrounding the Gulf of Mexico region gave
way, and produced 200-meter-plus tsunamis across
that region. The trigger? Possibly the Chicxulub
    (extraterrestrial) impact on Mexicos Yucatan
    peninsula.

27
So, evolutionists do believe in a world-wide
catastrophe!
  • Both creation scientists and evolutionists agree
there was a global catastrophic event in the
    past.
  • Supposedly, 65 million years ago a huge
meteorite struck a peninsula off the coast of
Mexicos Yucatan peninsula. This was so
devastating that it caused the world-wide
    extinction of the dinosaurs.

28
Landslide-generated waves
  • Underwater mapping of an area off the Hawaiian
coast reveals extensive landslide debris that
mantles the Hawaiian Ridge 5 times greater than
the area of the Hawaiian Islands themselves.
  • The mapping project shows a lumpy appearance to
the deposits strikingly similar to that left by
the 1980 Mount St. Helens landslide only 1000
    times larger.

29
Landslide-generated waves
  • These landslides traveled at underwater speeds of
100 km/hr and unquestionably caused monstrous
    tsunamis.
  • How big were they?
  • Basalt cobles reef debris are found 375 m
above present sea level on the island of Lanai.
  • Similar landslide debris offshore from both New
Jersey Oregon testify to past tsunamis.

30
Catastrophic geology
a respected scientific field
  • Unlike decades ago, many secular scientists today
have a respect for catastrophic processes in
    geology.
  • Examples include
  • oilfield geologists in the Gulf region those
    who study Grand Canyon
  • anyone involved in volcanology

modern creation movement

33
The Genesis Flood
  • Genesis chapters 69 clearly teaches a flood of
world-wide extent. A simple reading of these
chapters leads the reader to conclude that God
had Noah prepare an ark to withstand a
devastating, cataclysmic event. Indeed, there are
at least 30 statements of the universal character
of the Flood and its effects in Genesis

34
Noahs Flood punishment for sin
  • And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is
come before me for the earth is filled with
violence through them and, behold, I will
    destroy them with the earth.
  • Genesis 613

35
Noahs Flood punishment for sin
  • All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of
all that was in the dry land, died. And every
living substance was destroyed which was upon the
face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the
creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven and
they were destroyed from the earth and Noah only
remained alive, and they that were with him in
    the ark.
  • Genesis 722-23

36
Jesus is the Ark of
Salvation
  • Just as there was but a single door on the ark -
and one had to enter Gods protection by
willingly walking through this door one may
only enter into Gods peace and protection by
    going through Christ (John 146).

37
The Genesis Flood
  • Just how much water is on the Earth?

38
The Great Flood of Noahs day
  • The floodgates of heaven
  • The fountains of the
  • great deep
  • Genesis 711

Rapid deposition on a
regional scale
39
2 Peter 356
  • For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by
the word of God the heavens were of old, and the
earth standing out of the water and in the water
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed
    with water, perished

40
Promise of no more floods
  • Many local, even regional floods since Noahs
    Flood.
  • If Noahs Flood was
  • local, God
    broke His promise.

41
Mountain ranges
  • All the worlds great mountain ranges show
evidence of earlier higher water levels. These
evidences give a clear picture of a post-Flood
world in the process of emerging from a recent
global cataclysm. Indeed, even Mt. Everest has
    sea shells on the summit!

42
Wheres the salt?
  • Every year 450 million tons of sodium is dumped
into the oceans. Only 27 manages to get back out
each year. The remainder stays to accumulateyear
after year. We would have the
present amount in just 42 million yearsfar short
of the 3 billion years taught by evolutionists.
