Earning credits and GPA Creating High School
Transcript

• Credits are earned for each course with a passing
  grade at the end of each semester (excluding EOC
  courses)
• Each semester grade is a final grade (with the
  exception of EOC courses)
• EOC Courses earn credit after results from EOC
  exam are received.
• When a student becomes a freshman, everything
  starts to count. All freshman courses, grades,
  and credits will be on the students transcript,
  and freshman grades will be used to determine the
  students GPA.

Understanding your GPA

• Students start earning an official unweighted and
  weighted
• GPA after the completion of one semester of a
  high school course.
• Unweighted is based on all courses awarded
• A 4 C 2
• B 3 D 1
• Weighted is based on
• Honors awarded an extra 0.5 weight
• Advanced Placement and dual enrollment
  courses awarded
• an extra 1.0 weight
• Its important for students to get their year
  off to a good start. During the first few weeks
  of school, parents need to make sure that their
  children are doing well in their classes, and
  that theyre getting involved in school
  activities.

• 10th grade 5 credits
• 11th grade 11 credits

• Students have the opportunity to earn 7 credits
  per school year.

Dual Enrollment

• Students can begin dual enrollment in 9th grade.
• Must have an unweighted 3.0 GPA
• Must pass the PERT Exam, test for college

• Take college courses at one of the Daytona State
  College campuses.
• No cost for tuition and books
• Student must have their own transportation

• Florida Academic Scholars Award (100per semester

Superintendents Diploma of Distinction

• The purpose of the Superintendent's Diploma of
  Distinction program (SDD) is to recognize and
  honor students who have successfully completed a
  series of rigorous Advanced Placement courses and
  who are well prepared for their college
  experience.
• To earn the Superintendents Diploma of
  Distinction seal, the student must complete the
  following
• Minimum of 4 AP courses distributed over at
  least 2 different subject areas
• Successful completion includes passing the
  courses as well as sitting for the AP
• Earn a score of 3 or higher on three (3) or
  more AP exams.
• Earn a weighted AP GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Earn an overall weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Complete a minimum of 100 community service
  hours.
• Participate in the SAT or ACT College Entrance
  Exam Program in both the junior and senior year
  of high school.

• Students who do well on AP Exams can earn credit
  and/or placement into advanced courses in
  college.
• Colleges rank Grades in college prep courses
  and Strength of curriculum as the top two
  factors in the admission decision.
• Selective colleges and universities report that a
  students AP experience favorably impacts
  admission decisions.
• College credit earned through AP Exams allows
  students to move into upper-level college courses
  sooner, pursue a double major, gain time to
  study and travel abroad, and complete the degree
  requirements in less time.

What are AP courses like?

• AP courses typically demand more of students than
  regular or honors courses.
