test you will take - 1. Locator Test
- 2. TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)
- 3. OPT (Official Practice Test), and the
- 4. GED
- Today, will take the Locator and TABE test.
17Locator Test
- GED Locator Tests help teachers evaluate
students proficiency in each of the five GED
subject areas (reading, writing, science, social
studies and math). Test results indicate whether
a learner is ready for GED level study or needs
to first build skills and content area knowledge
at the pre-GED level for each subject - Depending on the students skills, a teacher may
decide to - Place the student at the Pre-GED level in all
subject areas - Place the student at the GED level in all subject
areas - Place the student at the Pre-GED level in some
areas and at the GED level in
18Locator Test (cont.)
- The Locator Test is divided into four (4)
sections - Subject Time
- 1. Reading 12 minutes
- 2. Math Computation 5 minutes
- 3. Math Applied (calcu) 8 minutes
- 4. Language 12 minutes
- Total Test Time 37 minutes
19TABE Test
- The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) has a
variety of uses in adult education. - For those who are teaching adult education
classes, TABE can be an assessment tool used in
designing or tailoring programs to the needs of a
particular group. - The TABE can be used to prepare adult students
for taking the General Education Diploma (GED)
test.
20TABE Test (cont.)
- The TABE is an excellent training and
preparation tool for the General Education
Diploma (GED) examination. - The TABE was developed with a view to marking a
students progress toward a self-set goal. In
other words, the TABE presents an educational
environment without the intimidation of potential
failure. - No one fails the TABE the test is used to
determine the vital content areas in which the
adult student requires additional assistance
21- The TABE Test is divided into four (4) sections
- Subject Time
- 1. Reading 25 minutes
- 2. Math Computation 15 minutes
- 3. Math Applied (calcu) 25 minutes
- 4. Language 25 minutes
- Total Test Time 90 minutes
22OPT Test
- The OPT is similar to the GED Test. It takes
about 4 to 5 hours to complete and is given in
the same way as the actual GED test to give you a
good idea about the experience of taking the
actual test. - The OPT is made up of the same five sections as
the GED Test Language Arts/ Reading, Language
Arts/Writing, Science, Social Studies, and
Mathematics. - Both tests were developed by the American
Council on Education.
23Who Can Take The Official Practice Test?
- Are you ready to pass the GED Test? Are your
academic skills strong enough to allow you to
pass? - If you are going to take the GED Test, you
should take the Official Practice Test first to
see how well you can expect to do on the GED
Test.
24Why Should I Take The Official Practice Test?
- Your OPT scores will enable you to determine if
you are ready to take and pass the GED Test. - You will have an experience similar to taking
the GED Test, which means you will be better
prepared.
25OPT (cont.)
- We want your path to a GED credential to be as
rewarding as possible. - So, before you get started, we must remind you
that the official GED Tests cannot be taken
online until 2014 beware of web sites and other
sources that tell you otherwise. - There are many good pathways to successfully
achieving a GED and moving on to work and
college.
26GED Test
- The GED Test offers adults who left school an
opportunity to earn a high school credential. - GED examinees must demonstrate major skills
(twelfth grade competencies that would have been
acquired in a four year high school education) in
a battery of tests covering five major subject
areas.
27GED Testing Location
- The official GED must be taken at a state
approved GED testing center. The full list of
testing sites can be found at http//www.tn.gov/l
abor-wfd/AE/aegedctr.shtml - The GED testing sites near Bledsoe County
include TTC Crossville and Chattanooga State
Community College. - Approval from your local Adult Ed program is
required before you can register to take the GED
test.
28Testing Time
Fill out your name on the Locator This is a
timed test, so work as fast as you can.
Remember, it is how many you get right that
counts. Do not disturb you neighbors. The
teacher will tell you when to begin. Just raise
your hand if you need any help. Good Luck!
29Finished Testing
- Turn your answer sheet over.
- Sit silently until the examiner collects all
testing materials (i.e., test booklet, answer
sheet, scrap paper, pencil, calculator, etc..). - The examiner will score your test and let you
know what to do next.
30CONGRATULATIONS!!!
- You have completed the pre-GED (Locator
TABE) testing and are on your way to earning a
GED. - Once your test results are available, AE staff
will contact you. They will share your test
results, what the results mean, and when to begin
class. - Again, congratulations!!!
