Title: What is Wrong with Instrumental Music in Worship?
1What is Wrong with Instrumental Musicin Worship?
2Does Jesus authorize the use of instrumental
music in worship?
- And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth. (Matt. 2818) - God, who at various times and in various ways
spoke in time past to the fathers by the
prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by
His Son (Heb 11-2) - Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.
(Rom. 34) - Test all things hold fast what is good. (1
Thess. 521)
3Violates the Law of Faith
- For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Cor. 57)
- But without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently
seek Him. (Heb. 116) - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God. (Rom. 1017) - There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus,
a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by
night (Jn. 31-2)
Faith
Opinion--Why?
4We Sing By Faith
I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray
with the understanding. I will sing with the
spirit, and I will also sing with the
understanding. (1 Cor. 1415)
Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing and making melody in
your heart to the Lord (Eph. 519)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all
wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col. 316)
5Corrupts the Worship
- And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus (Col. 317) - God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must
worship in spirit and truth. (Jn. 424) - Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
(Jn. 1717) - And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free. (Jn. 832) - However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come,
He will guide you into all truth (Jn. 1613)
6We Worship According to the Truth

took his censer and put fire in it, put incense
on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD,
which He had not commanded them. So fire went out
from the LORD and devoured them, and they died
before the LORD. (Lev. 101-2)
7Disrupts Unity
- Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the
same thing, and that there be no divisions among
you, but that you be perfectly joined together in
the same mind and in the same judgment. (1 Cor.
110) - He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words,
has that which judges himthe word that I have
spoken will judge him in the last day. (Jn.
1248) - I do not pray for these alone, but also for those
who will believe in Me through their word that
they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me,
and I in You that they also may be one in Us,
that the world may believe that You sent Me.
(Jn. 1720-21) - Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in
