Note Card Preparation

• Underline key words and phrases in your outline.
• Copy key words or phrases onto the card in
  proper order.
• Include citations on the note cards.
• Do not use full sentences on cards unless they
  are direct quotations.
• Review your cards and delete information you can
  recall easily.

Note Card Preparation

• Highlight material you have a difficult time in
  reading.
• Number the cards.
• Make sure your handwriting is legible.
• Do not write too small.
• May type-make font large enough to read easily
• Do not abbreviate key words or phrases unless you
  can recall them easily.

Note Card Usage

• Do not read directly from your note cards only
  glance at them while keeping audience eye contact
  constant.
• Do not play with, crumble, twist, turn, tear, or
  bite the cards while speaking.
• Hold the cards in one hand.

• Maintain eye contact when moving to the next note
  card.
• Hold the cards in your hand at all times unless
  using a podium.
• Practice giving your speech while using your note
  cards.
• NOTE CARDS ARE NO SUBSTITUTE FOR PRACTICE!
