Capitalization
First Words are Important!
We all know that the first word in a sentence is
always capitalized.

Tip 1

• The first word of a direct quote should begin
  with a capital.
• Example Mom asked, Do you need help?
• Notice We are going home, said Dad, and then
  well eat dinner.
• (Do you know why the word and is not
  capitalized?)

Tip 2

• Capitalize the first word of the opening and
  closing of a letter.
• Example Dear Adam,
• Yours truly,

Tip 3

• Always capitalize the pronoun I.
• Example After leaving school, I returned home.
