Introduction
  • 8th Year at Central Dauphin School District
  • Previous experience at Palmyra Area High School

Why study history?
  • Believe it or not you use history all the time.
    However, most history you use is personal
    history.
  • i.e. You touching fire and/or hot surfaces can
    burn you. Therefore you don touch a lit fire
    place and you use oven mitts when handling a pan
    from the oven.
  • History classes at school focus on studying
    formal history.
  • The purpose of formal history is to learn the
    important values and lessons that should be
    inherited by each generation.
  • i.e. themes of Democracy, social equality,
    integrity of beliefs, appreciation, awareness,
    civic virtues
  • It will make you more informed when you vote!

At the beginning of class
  • Please be at class on time to avoid a tardy slip.
  • Sit in your assigned seat for proper attendance
    and organization.
  • Be prepared for class, have your book with you
    and necessary materials such as writing utensils,
    paper, and homework.
  • Participation and preparation will benefit your
    success in this class.

Start of class Warm-up Exercise
  • The essential question of the day is presented.
  • A small introductory lesson will proceed after
    attendance has been recorded.
  • Some days will consist of completing some
    vocabulary words, a brief discussion, and/or the
    focus question of todays learning experience.
  • HW will usually be collected at the beginning of
    class, unless otherwise instructed.
  • HW turned in late will be awarded partial credit.
  • (1 day 50 2nd day forget it! Time given for
    absenteeism is in accordance with CDSD policy)

Main Lesson or Exercise
  • Most days consist of PowerPoint notes, guided
    reading, maps (1 per unit), articles, projects,
    small research projects, cooperative learning
    exercises, and educational media
  • Reviewing HW
  • Class ends with closing activity i.e.
    question/answer session, ticket-out-the-door, or
    review of assignment
  • HW will be posted on board or spoken to you
    directly. Please do not ask for the new HW
    assignment in the middle of lessons or beginning
    of class. You will be informed.

  • Grades are based on a point by point basis.
  • Quizzes 1-15
  • Chapter Tests 35-70 questions
  • Units Tests Usually around 70 questions
  • Midterms/Finals 125-150 Questions

Other Information
  • Bathroom breaks are for emergencies only
  • No one may leave class after 215 pm
  • No locker passes are allowed you must be prepared
    at the time of class.
  • Computer passes are granted only when my class
    has engaged in a project that requires the lab.
  • No Food or Drinks!
  • No cell phones or any other type of electronic
    devices are allowed to be used during class.
  • Purses or bags must be placed under desks.
  • Stay seated at the end of class. Do not line up
    at the door.
