access if you have to evacuate quickly.

- Keep one at home, at your job and in your car.

Bay Area Earthquake Impact
- There is a 62 probability of a strong earthquake
(over 6.7) hitting San Francisco in the next 30
years caused by the Hayward or San Andreas fault.
- In San Francisco, approximately 88,000 units will
be destroyed and overall 180,000 Bay Area. - 660,000 people in the Bay Area will be displaced
from their homes and 330,000 people will have to
go to a public shelter. - Over 12,000 roads in the Bay Area will be closed
along with damage to bridges and overpasses.

Things to Keep in Mind!
- During an earthquake, get underneath a table and
hold on or go to an inside corner and cover your
head. Dont stand in a doorway. - Avoid injuries AFTER the earthquake Protect your
hands feet. Beware of aftershocks. - Large-scale disasters may render cell phones and
the internet useless. Texting may be your best
option for communicating with someone out of the
area. - Transportation disruptions may prevent you from
leaving. - Plan to take care of yourself for at least 3 days
but it is recommended you have enough supplies
for 7 days.

Earthquake Aftermath
- You may have no power
- You may have no heat
- You may have no water
- Immediate emergency help may be unavailable
- You may be unable to contact family
- Your home may be damaged and you might be unable
to return to it - But you have a plan and you have a kit so you and
your family and your pets are OK

- Have working smoke detectors throughout the house
- Escape safely if you can.
- Know two ways out in case your exit is blocked!
- Feel the door with the back of your hand before
opening it. If its cool, open it slowly. - If you must go through smoke, crawl low under the
smoke. - Once out, stay out! Call fire dept. from another
place
