Thesis People exercise less today, decreasing
their health and quality of life. Introduction
From a biological standpoint when we exercise in
any way, we put our muscles, bones, lungs, and
heart under stress, causing them to strengthen.
When we leave our body without the strenght it
needs, it is more suseptible to diseases and
illnesses.
  • Argument 2 - use your own title
  • Only 19 of high school students are active for
more than 20 minutes a day
  • 25 of adults in America are not active at all
  • Live Longer!
  • Studies show that people who engage in exercise
live an average of 3 to 7 years longer than
    people who do not!
  • The more often you exercise, the greater you
reduce your personal risk of cancer and diabetes
  • People who exercise as little as 15 minutes a day
have a 14 lower mortality risk than people who
    dont exercise at all

Evidence to support this argument Exercise has
a favorable effect on virtually all risk factors
of cardiovascular disease, says Jonathan Meyers,
a health research scientist at the Palo Alto
Veterans Affairs Health System in California. The
reason, he says when a person exercises, the
heart muscle contracts forcefully and frequently
increasing blood flow through the arteries. This
leads to subtle changes in the autonomic nervous
system, which controls the contraction and
relaxation of these vessels. This fine-tuning
leads to a lower resting heart rate (fewer beats
to pump blood through the body), lower blood
pressure and more variable heart rate, all
factors that lower the risk of developing
cardiovascular disease.
  • Evidence to support this argument
  • More than 60 percent of U.S. Adults do not engage
in the recommended amount of activity
  • Physical activity is more common among
  • Women than men
  • African American and Hispanic adults than whites
  • Older than younger adults
  • Less affluent than more affluent people
  • Social Support from family and friends has been
consistently and positively related to regular
    physical activity.

Final Position/conclusion Restate important
evidence supporting what side of the contraversy
or what position you are advocating.
