5What is the primary factor that drives our
weather?
6solar radiation
7Tornado Alley exists because __?__ collide
there. a. cP and mP air masses b. cT and mT
air masses c. cP and mT air masses d. cT and
mP air masses
8c. cP and mT air masses
9In the United States, areas on the west side of a
mountain range typically receive more
precipitation than areas on the east side of the
mountain range. Which of these factors is LEAST
important in explaining this phenomenon?a. Weathe
r systems tend to move from west to east in the
U.S.b. Condensation usually occurs in a humid
air mass as it cools.c. Water as a liquid has
greater density than water as a solid.d. The
temperature of an air mass is reduced as it rises.
10c. Water as a liquid has greater density than
water as a solid.
11Answer 1-4
- What would be the weather for station A in the
next 24 hours?
12Increasing clouds, precipitation, decreasing
temperature
13Although thunderstorms can occur at any point in
the day, throughout the Midwest they are more
likely to occur in the late afternoon hours.
Which statement provides the best explanation for
this? a. Changes in pressure cause warming at
lower levels in the stratosphere.b. Humidity
levels rise as temperatures rise.c. Surface
warming throughout the day causes unstable
conditions in the troposphere.d. Rising warm air
causes stable conditions in the troposphere.
14c. Surface warming throughout the day causes
unstable conditions in the troposphere.
15Where on the Earth do the suns rays hit at a 90
degree angle?

20Since more of the suns rays are absorbed the
equator than at the poles, a heat imbalance
exists. Two phenomena help transfer this heat,
name one
21Global wind patternsocean currents
22Which of the following statements describes what
happens when the sun heats water and land? A.
Land heats more slowly than water does. B. Water
heats more slowly than land does. C. Water and
land absorb heat from the sun at the same
rate. D. Both absorb heat at the same rate, but
water releases it faster.
23B. Water heats more slowly than land does.
24Throughout any given day the suns rays strike
earths surface where much of it is absorbed
changing to heat. This heat then transfers
itself to the air directly above the surface
primarily through radiation. What does the
warmer air now do and what is the name of the
process?
25Expands and rises, convection

31Question 3-3
- C and D
- 0-30 degrees N and S
32Answer 3-4
- The westerlies are located between which two
latitudes N and S?
33Question 3-4

precipitation?
37march
38Answer 4-2
- What climate zone does the city on the left
represent?
39Temperate
40- Which of the following is NOT a potential result
of climate change? - Hurricane activity
- sea-level change
- orbital change
- Global warming
41C. Orbital Change
42There are 4 primary factors that can cause
climate change. Which factor can cause an
immediate change in climate lasting several years?
43Volcano eruption
44Which one of the following statements best
explains why climates at continental shorelines
generally have a smaller yearly temperature range
than inland climates at the same latitude?A.
Land changes temperature rapidly, due to the high
specific heat and lack of transparency of
land.B. Land is a poor absorber and a poor
conductor of heat energy.C. Ocean water changes
temperature slowly, due to the high specific heat
and transparency of water.D. Ocean water is a
good absorber and a good conductor of heat
energy.
45- C. Ocean water changes temperature slowly, due to
the high specific heat and transparency of water.

52- The air temperature and the wet-bulb temperature
were measured and both were found to be 18 oC.
Two hours later, measurements were taken again
and the air temperature was 20 oC, while the
wet-bulb temperature remained 18 oC. What
happened to the relative humidity of the air
