Title: SIMPLE MACHINES

1
SIMPLE MACHINES
  • A swift and easy way for you to learn all about
    the 6 simple machines!!!

2
What is a Simple Machine?
  • A simple machine is a machine with few or no
    moving parts.
  • Simple machines help us by making work easier.
  • Ex Pulley, Wedge, Inclined Plane, Screw, Wheel
    and Axle.

3
Mechanical Advantage
  • A mechanical advantage is the rate of the output
    force\work to the input force\work.
  • The mechanical advantage of a machine can be
    found using this equation
  • MA Output force (N)\Input force (N)

4
Inclined Plane
  • An inclined pane is a sloping surface.
  • Inclined planes help us by lifting large loads.
  • Ex A ramp
  • IMA length of slope (m)\height of slope (m)

5
Wedge
  • A wedge is two inclined planes joined back to
    back.
  • Wedges are used to split things.
  • Ex Axe or Knife

6
Pulley
  • A pulley is a wheel that normally has a groove
around the outside edge. (The groove is for a
rope or belt to move around the wheel.)
  • Ex Flag Pole

7
Screw
  • A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a
    shaft or cylinder.
  • Ex Jar lid and A bolt

8
Wheel and Axle
  • A wheel and axle is a large wheel connected to a
cylinder (axle) so that they rotate together.
  • Ex A doorknob and a combination lock
  • IMA Radius of wheel (m)\ Radius of axle (m)

9
Levers
  • A lever is a bar that is free to pivot\turn
    around a point.
  • There are 3 types of levers First-Class Levers,
    Second-Class Levers, and Third-Class Levers.
  • Ex Seesaw
  • IMA Length of input arm (m)\ Length of output
    arm (m)

10
How do Simple Machines help us?
  • Simple machines help us by making work easier.
