Shakespeare's Sonnets
  • A sonnet is a poem which usually has about 14
    lines, and can have any rhyme scheme
  • Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets
  • 126 were about a young man
  • 126-152 were about a dark lady

  • His first 126 sonnets were about this young man.
  • He had paid Shakespeare to write about him

Different Types of Sonnets
  • There are three main forms of sonnets that can be
    used. The reason there isn't just one is because
    they all differentiate in there rhyme schemes
    and that sets them apart.

  • The First Type of Sonnet is the Italian or
    Petrarchan Sonnet. The rhyme scheme is a b b a a

    used often.

  • He shares his feelings about a young man by
    comparing him to a summers day

  • This was the 3rd sonnet out of 4 reflecting upon
    his age
  • Influenced partly by Ovid's Metamorphoses

  • Explains the marriage of minds not just the
    ceremony.

  • Amazing background on each line, in depth thought

Shakespeares Plays
  • A play is a form of literature and is acted out
    with dialogue.
  • Shakespeare wrote 37 Plays
  • They advertised what the show was going to be
    about by waving flags. If the flag was black, it
    was a tragedy a white flag was a comedy and if
    they saw a red flag, it was a history play

  • First published in 1603
  • Hamlet wanted to avenge his fathers death, but
    Claudius was the king and was well protected
  • It was written as a Tragedy, revenge tragedy
  • Macbeth
  • First published in 1623
  • Struggle for Macbeth between his ambition and his
    sense of right and wrong
  • This play was also written as a tragedy.

  • Midnight Summer dream
  • First published in 1600
  • This play was about love and how in the turn in
    events the person you fall in love with isn't who
    they seem to be. The love triangle in this play
    is a prime example of what happen.
  • Written as a comedy , fantasy and also romance

Shakespeare Theatre
  • There were many theatres where Shakespeare
    performed his plays but the Globe Theatre was his
    main acting stage
  • It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing
    company in London. It was destroyed by a fire and
    then later rebuilt.
